Motordyne 5/16'' spacer and MREV2 dyno test

After we tested the Stillen intake and exhaust, we installed a 5/16'' Motordyne plenum spacer on my '06 6MT coupe (RevUp engine) with sports package. Gotta say, LOVE how complete this kit was, including pre-oiled longer bolts, spacers (installing them in the pic below), and extensive instructions.

Here's the graph, compared to the baseline with intake & exhaust.

As you can see, we gained a max of 7whp and 6wtq @ 6000rpm, with peak #'s growing to 240.29whp @ 6288rpm from 235.3whp @ 6250rpm and 225.34wtq @ 4716rpm from 223.1wtq @ 4635rpm. Very solid gains given how simple and easy an upgrade this is, plus it's very stealth once you put the engine cover back on. Nobody would even know it was there!

After testing the spacer, we then installed the MREV2 lower manifold. I don't have a picture of the MREV2 side-by-side with the stock manifold (will take one soon and post it), but basically the MREV2 has less of a hump on top of the three intake runners, essentially increasing plenum volume and allowing for smoother and less restricted airflow over them and into the combustion chamber.

Just like the plenum spacer, the MREV2 comes with amazing instructions and a complete set of hardware. It even comes with a little package of oil and instructions on how to properly oil the replacement gasket they provide. Very cool!

Here's how the graph looks, with the baseline form the intake, exhaust, and 5/16'' plenum spacer:

As you can see, the MREV2 picked up a buttload of midrange power, with max gains of 13.0whp @ 5550rpm and 13.4wtq @ 4450rpm. Peak #'s overall went up to 243.28 @ 6271rpm from 240.29 @ 6288rpm and 236.89 @ 4575rpm from 225.34 @ 4716rpm.

Gotta say, this Motordyne combo of mods really transformed the way the engine responds, especially when cruising on the highway and you jump on the gas to make a pass. Before, especially in 6th gear, the engine was very slow to respond if revs were under 3-4k rpm, but now with all this added midrange power the engine responds strongly and instantly when I get on the gas in any gear. Torque really is a wonderful thing for street driving and given that my G is used 5 days a week on my 80 mile round-trip commute to work, for me the car is just SOOO much more enjoyable than it was before. Doesn't hurt that the engine note is also a bit deeper and more aggressive, which I quite enjoy since I found the car a little too quiet and civilized when totally unmodified.

Now you need to call UpRev about getting Osiris. Even more power and torque waiting to be unleashed.

Thanks Dave. What kind of G do you have? So you didn't actually buy the MREV, right? You got the stock one modified, so I'm assuming you don't have a rev-up?

If you read the modified article, you'll see Dave has a 2006 g coupe revup in white with the sports package and RAS.

Yup, '06 6MT coupe with the sports package. So it is a RevUp and I did buy a MREV2. Sorry if my description is confusing. All I was saying is that Motordyne makes their MREV2 by modifying a non RevUp lower manifold, essentially lowering the height of the humps on top of the intake runners so that airflow over them is freed up. There's an excellent description of this on Motordyne's website, but I revised my original post above to help clarify things. Thanks for the input guys!

I think he added that after my question, cause I read his whole post the first time

Agreed. I have about the same mods on my 06 sedan with a revup and i picked up another 10 hp and 14 to 15 ft lbs across the midrange with my osiris tune.

Nice numbers, I really like how much the MREV2 made a difference across the midrange.

I actually have a Haltech Platinum on the way, so will let you guys know how much more power we can squeeze out of my RevUp with it compared to ckrug03's results with Osiris. Also bolting up a ATI crank pulley, maybe some other pullies, some headers, and maybe some high-flow cats. Might do cams eventually, especially if a few more options become available for the RevUp.

dave, I don't mean to offend, but I'm confused on the choice of the ati damper pulley for a N/A application when it is slightly overdrive and weighs about .5 lbs. more than stock.

I thought the ati/fluidampr pulleys are used on f/I applications, not for power increase or throttle response, but to prevent tordional vibrations that can damage the crank and engine?

I appreciate the feedback, jonny! Long-term build plan with this car is to either go high RPM all-motor or most likely forced induction, once I've maxed out the NA potential on the stock block. I think in either case (high rpm or FI) the ATI pulley will be good medicine.

Short-term I'd like to see how close to 300whp I can get NA, but after that I'm most likely going booooooost That's also the reasoning behind the Haltech, which I think will be good for NA tuning but will be even more valuable once I introduce some turbo goodness to the equation.

yes, it fits all G35's and since you've got the non-RevUp you can do a core exchange where you get $100 back if you send them your lower collector after you install the MREV2.
