Did my Akebono BBK install today! pics inside of the process and issues!

The front ones went pretty smooth compare to the back ones! This is not step by step, just quick steps when i had time to take some pics.

The front were First.

The Z1 Motorsports "Premium" Stainless Steel Brake lines

NOW here's the back issues and problems.

To get to the bottom 19mm bolt that holds the caliper you had to raise the rear suspension up to get some clearance. That wasn't too bad, I got that quick.

just a comparison...

trimming process of the rear dust shield,... those cutters worked great!!!

NOW THE PROBLEM... I bought Z1 motorsports stainless lines and that's how the rears looked compare to what i needed vs OEM

Now when you use the stock line for the rear caliper that bolt right there wouldn't close all the way. That'ts where it stopped and wouldn't go in any more. You see that space on the end? That's how much in needed to go in more after it's being already tight. And yes the 2 OEM copper spacers are on there, just hard to see

So I had to go to autozone and get some washers

Name: 120721_030.jpg
Views: 436
Size: 246.9 KB

Had to install some washers and tighten the line up all the way. This worked when I was bleeding the brakes, no oil leaked out. ... Later I didn't drive the car yet though cause I will have another big issue below

Name: 120721_031.jpg

Size: 211.7 KB

this is rear being complete.

Name: 120721_029.jpg
Views: 467
Size: 198.2 KB

Now when I was putting my rear wheels back on with 5mm spacers on there already, my rear calipers didn't clear! i had no idea this would be an issue. Need to get some 10mm spacers now =(

Name: 120721_033.jpg
Views: 411
Size: 184.5 KB

And when I was installing my rear wheel, I scuffed up one of the rear calipers with my wheels accidentally. Will need to get that fixed now! Can't drive the car until i get some spacers!

The BBK look really good too bad it got scuffed a little but u should be able to touch that up to make it mostly unnoticeable.

The rear install looks like a real pita and its strange that no one that upgraded to akebono bbk ever mentioned the issue with the brake line install... hopefully everything works out soon so you can post some nice finished pics!

Yes Kool Yaar, that's what kinda pissed me off, I got really frustrated that this rear caliper information wasn't mentioned anywere!! WTH!!!!??? Probably wouldn't have been a problem if I received correct rear brake lines. But still what about those who didn't change their brake line and decided to stick with OEM. Now that would suck!!!!

Yes I got some touch up paint for the rear callipers, will try touching it up, if it's too much noticeable I'll just repaint it.

Also I still have yet to test drive the car, waiting for my spacers to come in now.

They look great on your car. Sorry for the problems with the lines and clearance with the spacers but I'm sure it'll work out. Let us know how they feel when you are able to drive the car. Once again great look.

That does look great, Shurik! Love the color.

As for the brake lines, my set looks nothing like that. If anything it's almost OEM-like except that it's got braided lines --- you've got "one of them fancymajiggers". Has Z1 responded back yet on a resolution? What happened when you tried installing it?

On the wheels, you're the first documented case i know of wheels not fitting over the rear calipers. Every wheel i've had, including spares, would fit over it without issue. Sorry to hear about the problem.

On that note, as Kool mentioned, once you get over these problems, it'll surely be a thing of the past and you'll be enjoying it like nobody's business.

Thanks Mike. Well the rear Z1 line is completely different connection compare to the OEM.
Well anyway I've bought the lines on the ebay brand new all packed. It was the package for the 370z, G37s, and older Gs. need to contact him and ask WTH!?
About the rear calipers not clearing is not expected! I had no idea it wasn't gonna clear. Cause I had lots of room with OEM. Also I have 10mm spacers on front, and if I didn't it wouldn't have clear front ones as well.

It looks like you just need to get a shorter banjo bolt for the OEM hose to work in that caliper. You should be able to just pick one up for a G37 and use it instead. I wouldn't recommend stacking crush washers like that. AS far as that aftermarket SS hose goes, did you receive all the parts? I know the factory hoses have those "blocks" mounted at intermediate locations and then shorter hoses jumping from them to the caliper. Is it possible that the piece you got was just for the upper segment and you're missing another piece that would have gone from that block down to the caliper and ended with a banjo bolt connection?

Sorry about that paint scuff.

Looks good!! I actually had to do the same you did!! But I had a different problem! I broke one of the Banjos(I think that's the name) that came with my steel brake lines, fortunately I quickly grabbed the OEM one but since it's longer I had to use washer the same way ÿôū did!

Sucks about the scuff on the caliper! I have one in the front! :-(! Nice rotors!!

I see. Well my Rear SS lines didn't come with those bonjo bolts for the rear. And not the right rear lines at all.

Nice choice on color. Sucks one got scuffed

Looks like you might of gotten rear lines for a 350z with brembos as I think they have the block ends IIRC.

+1 on not stacking those washers. Get the right rear lines and only use the two washers.
