Aren't these interchangeable with th 2003-2004?

I know that I have a 2005 system in my 2003...replaced under warranty.

 

I don't think so because the upper cubby where the motorized screen goes is diffierent on the 05's

where would you install an aftermarket nav in a car that didn't come with OEM nav? In the OEM spot or just in the head unit area? I've heard that its still a pain in the A$$ to replace the stock head unit. is this true?
