WOuld this be too much bass for the G
WOuld this be too much bass for the G
I am looking at taking the the plastic molding on the sides of my spare tire out, and getting custom fiberglass enclosures made that would fit into that spot, and angle upward to the top corner of the trunk.
I am going to run 2 JL audio 12w7's one on each side at about 1000+ rms watts a piece.

These are in my opinion the best subs on the market msrp ~$900 each... does anyone have any suggestions?
any suggestions about products or the install would be appreciated, thanks.

1 12w7 would be plenty. they weigh just under 50lbs. if i'm not mistaken. just make sure you get a good amp. also 900 is a rip for a 12w7. they should run around 600-700, depending on the store.
Re: WOuld this be too much bass for the G
Yeah that is msrp, i can get them for about 450 through a hookup...!
I am going to go prob. with (2) 10w7's one on each side of the trunk where the plastic molding is alongside the spare...I can get them for less than 350 a piece, and they should be good!

That install sounds interesting. I'd like to see pics once it's done. It almost sounds too good - keep the spare and sink the subs.

I have one in my X5. One is enough and i am running 1000 watts to it. Just enough power allowed to it. So one should be enough dude. But if you wanna show it off, go ahead and put 2. Im putting 1 in my g coupe also. but right now i am debating on how to install it.
Good Luck

Yeah i am prob. going to end up with a full fiberglass mod in the trunk, with the two 10w7's on the side pocket area's and acrylic enclosures for the JL 1000/1 amp, and the other components and amps for the rest of the car, i am thinking of replacing all the speakers with either mb quarts or JL wr's

dude 2 10w7 is overkill. My friend hit 147db with one 12 idmax sub and he just got the 10w7 and hits much harder. Trust me, if you're going for SPL, do it. If you're doing it for better bottom end, one should be sufficiant.

Thanks bro.. i have yet to hear them, and am going to hear them on friday before i decide on the install.
I am sort of looking for a sub competition level setup... nice quality but tons of power!!!

Re: WOuld this be too much bass for the G
i've heard almost all of the "supersubs" on the market and i have owned a 12w7 with a 1000/1 amp in my previous car. It was good, but i found that having a pair of 10w6v2's with about 1000 watts, which might be my next setup is louder, cleaner, and requires about the same airspace for the pair of 10w6v2's as a single 10w7, 1.0 cuft. Just because the w7's are the "best" subs on the market does not mean they are the best sub for every install. There are other options that can outperform it. Just food for thought.

My opinion is two is one too many.
My single focal polyglass 13" in a sealed box plays down to 25 HZ. and will hit 142db.
Don't know why you'd need more!
