Tweeter Upgrade

OK I'm doing mod #3 which will be a set of 1 inch Polk Audio's in the tweeter bin. Can't wait until they get here. Some folks on the FA forum were very happy with a 60 buck purchase. Apparantly the crossover is reduced to about 4k increasing the high quality VERY sunstantially. Crutchfield POLK 3500's. Will report back!

Re: Tweeter Upgrade

Should be a nice improvement. Im running all MB Quart components in my doors. The sound is worlds better than the Bose crap.

Re: Tweeter Upgrade

I like the bass in the 6inch door speaker so I'll take the improvements a step at a time. I may power some new rear door speakers for more mid range power and cancel or hide some of the bass that pervades

Re: Tweeter Upgrade

go with an LPG 26na tweeter. Only problem is that it's rated at 8 ohms. This is a great sounding tweeter though.

Re: Tweeter Upgrade

OK the install was this am and the 1 inch Polks now reside in my sedan. 60 bucks well spent1 Jesus C. These things are pretty incredible. I took someones advice and played with the balance while one was in and one was out and what a difference - you get some serious high hat and cybmal that was totally missing from the stock tweeter. 60 bucks and 30 minutes per side. This and the grounding kit are mods of the year. I love that the hole in the Bose is gone. I went from great sound with the monsoon and hated the bose and now am very happy and wondering if changing any more speakers is necessary.

Re: Tweeter Upgrade

Awesome! thanks for the update! Can you please go into more detail about the process of swapping the speakers? Unfortunately I am not the best with a screwdriver.

Thanks!

Re: Tweeter Upgrade

It works like the instuctions describe - very detailed and accurate. Once you get the door panel off - which is three screws and three snaps - you just splice the new speakers in around the old plug and viola...new sound!

Monsoon? What kind of car? I had factory monsoon in my '00 firebird formula...added a sub and alpine hu and it sounded awsome!

Re: Tweeter Upgrade

They put it in the VW passat - i had an 01.5 that had it. Found a subwoofer in the back one day when I pulled the carpet out off the trunk floor - was like no wonder this thing sounds good. The bass was actually a little soft for the car but some music rocked and it was crystal clear with CD player. The bose is more powerful and sounds as good with the new tweeters...which I just rocked out to with Hot for Teacher last night and WOW - those things are worth a lot more than 60 bucks. Wish the bose system had the back seat tweets like the passat - that was very classy to have the same equipment in back as in front.
