bose amp locations.

Are there 2 amps for the bose premium system in a 03.5 sedan? I find one amp on the bottom side of the decklid next to the factory sub. I have a full size spare, nothing that I can find elsewhere (although I didn't tear the side panels off the trunk yet..

I ask, as I intend to do staged upgrades if possible.
2ohm front set
Sub setup w/amp
Then a nice 2 channel amp for the front stage

Also, what size power wire should I use? 2 or 4 gauge?
I plan on using either MB or boston fronts (if I can find them in 2 ohm), a 10W6 for the sub. I'm going for clarity, not boom boom boom...

one amp, driver side trunk - multichannel, weak...

Gauge depends on run length and wattage going through it - use 4 gauge for up to about 50-60 amps at 12 feet length. Higher the length or amps, go to 2 gauge...

so the thing under the decklid isn't the sub amp?

I'm confused, is there a seperate sub amp, or just the one drivers side trunk amp?

Is it possible to simply upgrade the sub with an amp that accepts balanced imputs, while leaving the stock amp to work the doors?

Ok, so the subwoofer/sub amp are all in one. Can I assume that the signal imputs to the subwoofer/amp are straight off the bose HU, or are they modulated by the main amp somehow ahead of time?

IE: can I splice twisted pair RCA's in to the wires going into the subwoofer, or do I need to take those off the bose amp.

Thanks

One amp, under the rear decklid. Sub amp is built into the sub. Amp "processes" the signal quite a bit, tap before the amp for best results. Search.

Thanks. I've been searching, but I find all kinds of conflicting information. I see that there is one amp, under my decklid. I also understand that there is a sub amp built-into the subwoofer.

I'm wondering if the input to the sub amp has already been through the other amp, or if it has been manipulated by the other amp.

ie: Do I take the signal for my sub off of the line into the subwoofer?
Is this signal being sent directly from the HU?

I've found posts saying both things, so I'm trying to figure out which one is which.

I plan on doing a full sytem, but one piece at a time. Front replacement speakers, then sub + sub amp, then a 4 channel amp for the fronts and rear fill.

If I take the rear output away from the factory amp, I'm questioning what the system will sound like without any rear fill. When I do get the amp for the front/rear, I'd like to be able to fade the rears out or tune them with the amp.....and if I have the rear signal powering the sub, then how can I do that?

You'd want to feed the sub from the fronts, and xover between the front speakers and the sub so as not to end up with two set of speakers competing to play the same frequencies. Remember the rear is just fill, your fronts and sub are supposed to compliment each other, so you'll want them running off the same channels.

Why not get a 3 or 5 channel amp and do all the speakers at once?

Tap into the wires going into the Bose amp before the signal gets processed. The Bose amp adds sound shaping that works okay with the Bose speakers, but you don't want that with replacement speakers.

I hope you are planning to use an aftermarket sub and enclosure. I wouldn't bother trying to replace the stock sub or use it.
