hazard light mute switch X50 passport tech question

How do I turn the hazard switch into a SPST momentary switch?

I want to hard wire my Passport X50 in my 05 G coupe. The “smart cord” uses a mute button that shorts the yellow wire to a resistor, then to ground. I was thinking about putting a panel in the ashtray (I even bought plastic), but I don’t want to lose my change holder. I rarely use my hazard lights and would not mind relocating hazard light control to a remote location. This would allow me to use the hazard switch as a mute button, but I don’t want to risk forgetting to re-open the circuit. A momentary switch is the solution, but I have no idea how to make it momentary.

The other option is to use the “cancel” button on the steering wheel. I never use that one either, but I bet that one is even more complicated…

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've been pondering the same thing. I have the SmartCord wired but the remote mute is tucked behind the dash until I can find a worthwhile location to mount it. I am probably going to flush it in the ashtray unless I come up with a more creative solution.

you'll need a means for switching your hazards back to actually being hazards, or you'll fail inspection (regardless of state)
