Those with Alpine w200 and z1

So I read a lot about the Z1 review a lot of people like the deck, what about the alpine new DD unit w200. I know one has nav and the other does not but my main concern is the ipod interface, which of the unit is the fastest.

Thanks

the z1 ipod interface is great, but somewhat slow in terms of scrolling through lists (maybe a second lag when scrolling). it does everything else pretty fast though. I am not sure how this compares to the alpine

thanks, patman from what i hear it will be slow compare to alpine but this is from the words of the sales person. Reason that i was given is that alpine is the only one with an intergraded chip for ipod built right in to the deck and hence the speed. Now I really don't believe this because in the past alpine decks I have heard that it is slow as hell so i want people to chime in.

Also Iunderstand that both decks has built in equalizer but i am thinking of getting a sperate unit for this, Audio control one for more fine tuning. Do you guys think it is necessary?

I believe MiloX has the W200/H701 combo. W200 doesn't have alot of EQ flexibility by itself. The H701 increases preout voltage and provides like 31 EQ bands to play with and it can be fully controlled from the W200 touchscreen. I'm potentially looking into this combo as well.

Good Luck!

EQing should be for tweaking, not fixing. And honestly, I don't believe tweaking by ear is valuable, but that's just me. If you need an EQ to "fix" something (be it harsh highs, muddy mids, lack of lows), you need to rethink your system design and implementation. In-deck EQs rarely provide the level of accuracy and intricacy that I want when tweaking (that's not what they are meant for, they are meant to impress the owner and make the owner think they have something they really don't).

There are advantages of each unit, depending on what you want
Pioneer:
Faster, more accurate navigation
Navigation all in one (W200 requires purchase of Blackbird, mounting cradle, and antenna)
H701 can be added to get better Eq (requires the 2nd control screen, mounts nicely on the lid of the storage above the radio)

Alpine
Better built in Eq
Faster IPod (lightining fast, not like past decks)
H701 can be controled right from the main screen

K i think I am going to get the Alpine unit

Questions that I have if someone can help here.

- I know there is a PAC unit for the alpine to bypass the video how does it work.
- I will get the navi for the unit later, so I want to know is there a difference in terms of navigation between the blackbird unit (I know is portable) and the dvd base. Main concern is upgardability or is there some features lacking in the blackbird and the dvd base.
-should I get the PXA-H701 or go with the audiocontrol unit.

For those that is asking why I am going with this unit I am picked this unit due to the IPOD interface. I saw the unit in action and is so much faster the the pioneer z1 unit. Alos the idea of the blackbird is nice because I can use this in multiple cars. Only thing I am unsure is the quality between blackbird and the NVE-N872A.

All of the reviews have seen for the blackbird state that it sucks. Its VERY VERY slow calculating routes, doesnt pick efficient routes, and locks up when it has to re-calculate a route.

The PAC to bypass the DVD will just group the appropriate wires the the proper order to trick it into thinking you did the brake / parking brake sequence. There is an override for the Z1 for sale for $30 as well.

You wont be able to use any features of the Blackbird other than Navi throught the W200 (music / pictures).
