Need some computer knowledge for PS2

I know there's already a PS2 thread going right now but mine isn't about power. I took mine apart to try and change it up to fit in a smaller space but I'm running into a problem. There are 3 of those tape/ribbon/wire connections (from controls to boards) that I need to replace with longer ones. I've checked at several computer stores and gaming stores around here and they all look at me like I'm from outer space. I know I'm not the first person to do this so these parts must be out there. One of the stereo shops here told me they do it but won't sell me the parts or show me where to get them. I've done several searches online and I guess I'm not using the right terminology.

I know there's a lot of computer guys on here so I'm hoping one of you can steer me in the right direction. Thanks.

Someone has to know something about this. If you go to your car audio shop this weekend do me a favor and ask around. Thanks.
