LOUD buzz after amp/speaker install. Help!
Hi all,
I finished the install on my '05 Coupe with Blose this weekend and I'm having this crazy problem. I've done a 3-way active setup with a PPI FRX-456 crossover, which does take balanced inputs. I've kept the factory Bose head unit.
After hooking the factory front inputs into the crossover, it sounds fine for about 90 seconds. Then I get this INSANELY loud buzzing noise through both channels. It sounds like the Family Feud "XXX" buzzer and it doesn't stop until I unhook the RCA's or turn off the ignition. I've redone the connections and they seem okay.
I split an RCA cable and tapped into the front preamps as follows:
front left = white +, orange -
front right = orange/blue +, white/blue -
I can unplug the inputs and plug them back in sometime later and the cycle starts all over: sounds fine, then BUZZZ!
It all sounds fine with my iPod connected to the crossover, and the sound through the rear speakers (factory Bose amped) is unaffected, so I've isolated it to something about how the head unit is connected to the crossover.
HELP!
thanks in advance,
Michael

Hrm, sounds like +12v current going to something... But it sounds fine for 90 seconds?
I have no idea.
Question though, are you using the factory Blose amp on those 3-ways?

Badbread - yeah, it sounds fine for a couple of minutes. Then BZZZZ!
The front channels of the Bose amp are bypassed. I'm going from the head unit to the crossover, which splits 3-way into the amps. The setup is as follows:
PPI FRX-456 crossover -->
Elemental Nine.4 in 4-channel mode:
- eDi 6500s component set
Lanzar Opti 100.2 bridged:
- two ID8V3's in a ZEnclosure box
I'm going to adjust the fader to the front to avoid the factory "rear fill."
Thx for your help guys. I'll go check my grounds again. I'm stumped.

Just for kicks, I hooked the crossover up to the rear channels instead and BZZZ!
I think that although it's advertised as being suitable for balanced inputs, the FRX-456 is having trouble with the balanced inputs from the head unit. Ordered a Soundgate LOC4.4 which I'll install next week.
thx for your input,
M

So I installed the LOC4.4 this morning. It sounds good, except for ALL the electrical noise. There's a hum when the engine is running, the turn signals make noise, the headlights make noise.... I can decrease the hum by turning the gains down, but then I have to turn up the HU to clipping to get much volume.
I'm going to have a professional fix it. I'm sick of burning up my weekends on it. Might use it as an excuse to go double DIN too.
Thanks for your help,
M
