Fans For Amps???

For all the people that have customized trunks on the coupe do you use fans to cool your amps? Im talking about those fans that use on computer cases.

i was thinking the exact same thing, i figured there shouldnt be a problem, just hooking them up to the 12v remote wire...... i just installed a jl 500/1 its mounted in the trunk, plenty of space around it but its overheated on my a few time now!!!! im kinda losing my patience... especially since they arnt cheap amps... BUT the question is....do you think two of those PC fans have enough potential to cool an amp????

I run two fans, one for each amp. It depends on where the amps are mounted. The smaller the space around the amp, the quicker the air will pass over it with these fans. As far as hooking it up, you can use the remote wire if you are not connecting too many things off of it, otherwise I would suggest a relay. Here's how I mounted my stinger fans:

IMO, those Stinger crossflow fans are the best for cooling amps. Great cfm rates.

If you decide to put in fans just use your remote turn-on wire for your amps to activate a relay for power. Your stereo does not have enough current to run them so they will need their own power supply.

I second that. Pheonix Gold representative recommended cross flow fans for the best cooling.

I also use a relay on the remote lead to turn the fans on and off. I wouldn't power the fans from the remote lead directly.
