Hey cliverman,
You have to physically pull it up. There are guide rails on the side of the monitor cover that I utilized to help slide it up and down.

Man..for a fraction of that cost I could do a sort of motor/actuator that woudl pop it up and down... Sounds like a fun project

Bummer. I got the whole thing for a measly $2000 when I bought the car.
If the spring loaded thing costs $1400 as a separate piece, then that explains the $6000 estimate to retro-fit a Nav system to a non-Nav car. Those parts are horribly overpriced.

So can the monitor actually retract by pushing it down or does it not move. If it does wouldnt u need an extra piece to make it slide up and down?

Hey guys. Got off the phone with Carvey and the part# for the titanium dash monitor cover is 28075AM603. Retail is $15.33, Grubbs can get it for $12.26.

aorbeta > What happens to the velvet material in the cubby hole? Or does everything inside have to be chopped up and removed?
Is there anyway of using this $12 screen cover and making it work like this? The whole thing would have to sit up much higher (blocking the clock) of course. Any thoughts?

Rumble,
The way that I installed it, I cut the cubby hole compartment a good bit for the monitor to sit lower. I did this to test how much the monitor would have to slide up and down if I wanted to motorize it. In my application, the bottom and back of the compartment is cut out, so the monitor can actually drop lower into the cubby compartment, with the top of the monitor cover flush with the top of the titanium center console. The back is cut out so in the future I can add a motor to motorize it up and down.
Most definitely you can have the monitor sit much higher, covering the clock without cutting up the cubby hole compartment. If the monitor was to sit this high, a cosmetic cover would have to be fabricated to hide the power and video wires to the monitor, the stock nav button/control panel thingy does this. You could also cut the cubby lid in half to do this.
I like dogtag's apllication... To use the stock monitor cover and have it retract in and out might be a pain in the ****. I also don't think it would be as aesthetically pleasing as dogtag's current setup.

Yeah, the cubby hole needs to be cut for sure. It's very shallow. There was another guy who just installed the flip out DVD player/screen like a din pocket within the cubby. I thought that was an amazing idea as well...but of course it comes with a higher price.
