Aftermarket NAV Options

I have done a search over various aftermarket NAV options. However, the results were somewhat old.

Has anyone lately researched the addition of an aftermarket NAV system to their G35? I am looking into various mounting options from Pioneer and Alpine. Some suggest hiding the 5.8" Alpine screen inside the cubby hole. Other suggest that the monitor needs to be mounted on top of the cubby.

In addition, are there any DVD Navigation systems that include the ability to watch DVD movies? I have heard that pioneer has that option on older models but the new AVIC-80DVD does not. Does anyone have experience in these?

Thanks

Also been researching the same thing. The AVIC-90DVD has all the same features as the AVIC-80DVD, but also has the ability to play DVD movies. If you purchase either of these and use an aftermarket screen other than the Pioneer units(AVH-P7500DVD, AVH-P6500DVD, AVD-W6210, AVH-P6400CD, AVH-P6400) you have to purchase the Pioneer CD-RGB26P(I think it's around $50), it breaks out audio and video to the screen. I know that none of the Alpine Nav units can play DVD movies. I think I'm gonna stop by a store in the area to see demos and compare the Nav capabilities of each. If it were my choice now, I'd have to go with the AVIC-90DVD because it has the ability to both play DVD's and Navigation.

Re: Aftermarket NAV Options

Well, I visited another shop. Unless I mounted the monitor on top of the cubbyhole it will be very costly. I also found that the AVIC 90 is the older version that does support DVD movie playback but does not have touch screen. The AVIC 80 has voice and touch, just no DVD movie playback.

It seems like aftermarket NAVS are too expensive to get unless you dont mind having mounted in an obvious location. Makes me want to consider using that money for a Garmin IQUE 3600 PDA\Navigation and using the rest for a nice set of rims.

Re: Aftermarket NAV Options

I installed a monitor in the cubby hole for a reasonable amount of $. Using my Playstation as a source. I will probably go with the AVIC-90DVD because I have no need for touch screen and will not be using a Pioneer monitor. I looked around on Ebay and you can purchase either the AVIC-80DVD or AVIC-90DVD brand new for under $1k. Nav will have to come later for me though, need to spend some cash on the woman instead of my car She likes watching movies in the car though.....

Re: Aftermarket NAV Options

Pioneer vs Panasonic? I heard from my car guy that Pioneer Navs are better than Panasonics. He didn't really elaborate, so I'm just wondering if what he says has any real worth to it. Is the build/functionality better? Or does it really just rest with the brand name?
