best quality 10 inch subs? help :(

Hey you guys, today I got my Z Enclosure and the only thing that I need to complete this bass project is well.. the subs. I've searched the threads and I see alot of JL popping up, and I have read how those things are amazing and all that but my budget isn't that high. I would like to spend around 200 for two 10s which seems reasonable eh? I have a JBL 1200 watt amp from my old car which I plan on using. I am looking at Alpine type-r and Kicker VR, any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Something you have to consider is airspace since the box you got is for 2 tens. You'll need subs that require a small amount of airspace for that box to work correctly. I would recommend either the Elemental Designs or Image dynamics 10's since both require a small amount of airspace for your setup. Another option is the resonant engineering 10". Be sure to stuff your box with polyfill to "increase" the airspace by ~10%

I don't know why you just didn't get a box for 1 10" JL w6?

That sub pounds just as hard as 2

I thought about getting one 10, but as mentioned earlier, I have a 1200 wat amp and didnt want that going to waste on like you know, 300 watts? I'm no sound expert and the airspace thing I dont really get...

This statement is misleading. It should be phrased 1 10" JL w6 pounds as hard as a pair of SOME subs. No matter how good a sub is, it can't make up for cone area, double the cone area of 2 comparable subs, and you'll get higher output. Its a FACT. I'd put 2 IDQs or ED 11ov.2s against a w6 any day with similar power, and pound MUCH harder than the w6.

If you dont want to waste the amp then just go with the 10w7 jl audio in a sealed box.!!!
You will be more than happy.

Image Dynamics IDQ-10 are great subs, will run you about 300 for the pair.

In response to 2006_G_coupe comments on the JL W7 and sealed box, let me just say to do it correctly you need a massive box as I would know I had it done by JL (Specific box just for the W7). The sound on a decibel count is unbelievable and will sounds clearer (Low distortion) and move air more than most configurations with larger surface area as it isn’t about surface area as that is a means what is important is the amount of area moved and just because it is a larger woofer doesn’t mean more air moved but we can save that for a physics class. See pic below.

I got 10" kicker l5's and they fit amazingly and bump so loud... I wouldn't go with anything else like JL audio because your spending extra money for high quality that no one really notices and sacrificing loudness, (something you absolutely do notice). My l5's actually do sound great too its not bad quality bass at all...
