110v in the Trunk?
110v in the Trunk?
Any reccomendations as to how I can get 110v power in the trunk? I bought a little 140w DC-AC converter and I really dont feel like running a power cable from the battery. Are there any other options? TIA
Re: 110v in the Trunk?
My quick answer would have been to tap into the "hot side" of the trunk light pin switch (not sure if there would have been a wire size problem with the amperage required) but that won't work anyway.
I just went through the Factory Service Manual (i am printing it now) and found that all lighting is controlled through Body Control Module, which "times out" the interior lights after 30 minutes if the car is turned off. Not sure what you would be using it for, but this might be a problem. Plus, someone smarter than me please give input, I wouldn't want to run a 110v converter off a light circuit coming from a small computer.
What I would do is run an 8 guage power wire, give it its own fuse and then ground the other side in the trunk, cut the cigarette lighter adapter off you converter and connected the wires to the 8g and the ground.
But if you really don't want to do this, tap into the 12v power to the Bose amp, which is in the trunk in the coupe.
Tell us how it turned out.

Yeah, that wire gauge thing could be a problem. You don't want to run an inverter off of dinky little wires.. if you're lucky, it'll blow fuses left and right. If not, it'll melt some wiring. You could put a second battery in the trunk, and take it out and charge it every time it dies.
