Question on CDT's w/ Upstage Technology

Ok, So I have 2 sets of these speakers sitting here waiting for the install...

My question is if I put the set in the front doors and tweets in the A-pillar will a 2nd set in the rear dash confuse the harmonics? or would it be that much better for a surrounding effect?

I have a nice pair of JL's as well that I was going to put on the trunk lid but I could go either way and put a pair of the CDT's on the trunklid and the JL's on the rear dash... The JL's are coax and not component...

here is the CDT's and my subs....

Link to the speakers....

Thanks for any info you can give.

I wouldn't put the second set in the rear decklid. That will definitely throw off imaging. If you had gotten the components originally suggested ;-) you wouldn't have this dilemna. Why didn't you at least go with the HD's that were the same price? You stepped down from what you had originally planned (well not originally, but when you had decided on the HD's or DLS Iridiums).

I saw "Carbon Fiber" and said thats it....

The EF w/ upstage are (imo) better than the HD's w/ out...

So I gave up the HD for the Upstage

These are going to be sweet.

Well, I can understand the attraction to CF, but the HD's are a better speaker in their lineup, and the DLS Iridiums trump both of them IMO. I am not saying they aren't nice speakers, just that there were better options for the $$. But I'm sure you will enjoy them, and I'm glad someone on here is doing something other than DLS UP6. So good luck with everything, but def don't put the upstage in the rear. You are better off selling them. I would put 2 woofers in the rear before a component set. Especially in a decklid. The upstage won't really do any good in the trunklid either. Mount the front upstage in the A-pillars facing towards the windshield. This will help center the sound stage. They are attenuated and you can adjust them so they aren't overbearing.

Thanks for the input

I know the HD's are one up in the lineup but I started reading about the upstage and thought that would be cool to have and for the money the HD's would have been a cpl hundred more for that set up w/ Carbon fiber.

I guess the Upstage would not work well in the trunk w/ nothing for it to play against...

What about the rear dash playing off the back glass? I could try to make a stage in front and in the back of the car.

It plays off of CDT's center stage set up...

What? I am all confused... Am I missing something here?

A rear soundstage? I don't know about you but I have never been to concert and faced away from the stage. What are you talking about?

No. CDT wants you to have a front soundstage, not a rear. The purpose of the upstage is to raise the sound floor up to try to put it on the dash, kinda like the concert is going on right in front of you. If you put those in the rear, you are going to throw off the imaging, make it sound like the sound is coming from behind you. Not a good thing. That's why I say keep tweets away from the rear deck, because those higher frequencies will be much more noticeable from the rear than low frequencies...especially bouncing off of the rear windshield.

I guess what I was trying to say is put them up front and in the rear to put in you the center of the stage with the music flowing all around you.

I hear ya, but no. Not the way to do it, but ultimately, it's how you want the music to sound. But any good installer will tell you that is not the way to do it.

That is certainly not how CDT intended it. The HD components are significantly better than the EF series. khsonic03 is speaking the truth. I would ditch the EF components and go with the HD components. Keep the upstage tweets. They're great but make sure you attenuate them appropriately so as not to localize those highs. Also ditch the rear components and find some decent midbass for the rear deck it you really want speakers back there. Just my $.02. Love your TB coupe by the way!

I am also having him do the components last in the door cuz I am overniting my EF's for these to use with my upstage.

I am going to use the EF's for the rear deck and my installer is going to buy the other tweets from me.

It'll work out...

You're going to like the HD-62's. I am running a set of those in my coupe. You can still use the Upstage tweets depending upon the location of the HD tweets.
