Help!!! with new sub(s) choice.....
Hey guys,
I want to sell my current system for something that will weigh less but be as loud.
My current system is:
2 12 inch subs
Powerbass XS12D1v.2 (800 rms each)
1 ED NINe.1 amp
I was wondering:
*Should I go for 2 10's or one 15?
*I will be keeping that amp so what will be the best sub or subs to match that amp
*Also looking for something that wont take up much trunk room so maybe around 3.5 to 4 cubic feet
*Budget for the sub(s) around $450
*SQ or SPL, I dont really care, the pbx subs sounded good enough
The only thing so far that has been recommended to be would be two 10 inch IDMAX subs.....
THANKS
PS. This will be going into my new G35 woooo

How bout a single 12" sub? A 12w7 may do the trick. You will need a 1000 watt RMS amp for it. I'm assuming that you will be putting this in a sedan? The coupe trunk is very small and a two sub setup can easily render your trunk useless. The other method is to go with a 4080 box that will fit in coupe trunks and provide flexibility for normal trunk access/use. The 4080 solution is viable provided that you stick with 10" subs (No w7 though).
Good Luck!

A 12w7 is rated for 750 watts RMS. Can it handle more? Absolutely. Do you need more than 675 or even 500 watts? Absolutely not. Again, the difference between 500 watts and 1000 watts is 3 db absolute. That's probably one click on the volume up. You don't want to be taxing your electrical system for that 3 db, which you may never use anyway. Just make sure that you set the gain/input sensitivity correctly and the dub7 will shake everything in your car.
Your next thread will be one asking about installing dynamat.

^^
al503 has explained this very nicely. You will almost never need to tap the full RMS rated power from a 12w7.
Reasons why:
1. Your windows will probably blow out first.
2. Your internal organs will get frapped like a frappuccino.
Properly tuning your amp to work with the sub will be key to providing good sound and equipment safety.
