alternative to dynamat
I didn't say the alternatives were the same as Dynamat. Dynamat is a great product no doubt but it is hideously expensive. A few of the alternatives like RAAMmat have evolved from asphalt-based to butyl-based products which are better. All the asphalt-based products would still do a better job than aluminum-covered bubble wrap. While adding mass is the goal, it isn't everything. Pliability, adhesion properties, and durability are key attributes to consider when choosing a deadener. Using a heat gun is a PITA. Deadeners that are too stiff to easily cover panel contours are also a PITA. I use and prefer RAAMmat combined with Ensolite closed cell foam. It's a much cheaper alternative than Dynamat.
It depends on what your goals are for your deadening project. The Ensolite is more for sound absorption than for mass loading. It will muffle a vibration but not eliminate it. It is useful in doors and headliners for reducing road noise.
