XM ANTENNA

I really want to subscribe to XM radio. However, the antenna the dealer wanted to install just won't do. Those of you who have XM radio, PLEASE post photos of your antenna's and where you got them....I want something that looks a bit more classy than that "pod" looking thing.

Thanks in advance for your pics!

Re: XM ANTENNA

I use a Terk XM3 low profile antenna on the trunk lid. I tried it on the rear parcel shelf but my metallic tint wiped out the reception. Photos in the link below.

Re: XM ANTENNA

I'm also trying to find a place to throw my XM antenna. I need to call my tint guy to see if it'll interfere with an internal antenna, but I REALLY don't want to be able to see it... Anyone got a good solution?

Quick tip from my installer if you're deciding between Sirius and XM: look at the company's stability. Apparently Sirius has been having some financial troubles recently I don't think I want to install a receiver and antenna and then have the company fold and transfer their subscriber base...

Re: XM ANTENNA

Current customer base is over 1 million for XM and about 150K for Sirius, so that's another indicator that XM is doing financially better than Sirius. XM also has ground repeater transmitters that Sirius do not so there may be less chance of dropout with XM. I love my XM!

Re: XM ANTENNA

Most of us put ours on the rear deck in a position that is out of mind out of sight. You do lose signal at a minumum, but nothing to worry about. With window tinting you will lose a little also. But even with the ugly antenna on the outside you still lose some signal in certain spots. Check www.clutchfield.com. They have a couple of better looking alternatives for outside installation. Also a special antenna is available to give you better reception when installed inside. Check some of the earlier posts for that info.

Re: XM ANTENNA

I tried the antenna (both OEM Clarion as well as Terk XM3) on the rear shelf in my coupe and I had "no signal" for at least 70% of the time on a short drive. I have metallic tint 30% on the rear which blocks the XM signals. When I put antenna on the trunk I had no dropouts on the same drive. Bottom line is metallic tint and interior antenna don't go together. I've heard that Huper Optik ceramic tint is fine for sat radio, but I already had my tint prior to my XM install.

Whats wrong with the lump of turd antenna? I hear what your saying. I guess I'm not that picky. It is a conversation starter though. Everyone who sees our car asks what it is.
