Activating Sat Radio

I just picked up my car fromDouglas Infiniti in Summit NJ....I asked about the satellite radio and the sales rep sd I had to get the receiver installed in order to activate radio....I was under the impression that all i had to do was activate the service. Is this right....a buddy of mine just bought a GMC denali and the dlr he went to activate the Xm radio for the 1st month for him. Please let me know how this works....Thanx.

Please email me @ victorl@lakeleasing.com

If you didn't ask for the receiver to be installed when you bought the car, then you'll need to get the kit ($~300) from your dealer. You can install it yourself (fast, easy) or have the dealer do it (fast, easy, expensive [depending on the dealer]).

Re: Activating Sat Radio

Actually I think it's a $400 option, and they will charge you for labor...sorry man.

I also wanted to mention that I will be getting the Delphi SKYFi unit for XM radio, it's only like $130 plus the car kit.
The reason I think it's better is b/c it displays all the info at once (channel name, channel number, artist, and song title). I don't like the fact that it's not integrated, but I will try to mount it in the cubby hole when I get my g35c.

Good Luck.

Re: Activating Sat Radio

Our stereo is "satellite radio ready" -- you need the actual satellite receiver and antenna before you can activate service. At least this way you can choose between XM or Sirius. You can order the kit from Grubbs Infiniti (www.infinitiwholesaleparts.com) and install it yourself. I think it comes with instructions, not sure -- but it's not a terribly difficult install. There are instructions lurking around these forums, as well -- check the FAQ section.

Re: Activating Sat Radio

To back up a bit. does your car have the reciever already in it. Is there a SAT button on the far right? is the antenna on the car? if so all you need to do is go to channel 1 and get your radio ID and call XM.

If not then you need to folow the steps outlined by other posters about this topic
