Aftermarket Stereo
Re: Aftermarket Stereo
no matter what, someone will eventually develop some type of aftermarket kit to allow easy installation.. just wait a while, if not, i'm pretty sure there's still an easy way around it..
Re: Aftermarket Stereo
While I kept the stock head unit, I upgraded my 120w stock system with aftermarket audio components. to wit:
In the front, MBQuart QM 218.61 6.5" 2-ways.
In the rear, MBQuart RKC 116 6.5" reference 2-way coaxials. In the trunk, a sealed 2x10" box w/ two MBQuart PWD 254s.
On the box, a 1300w Directed Audio #1100d5 5-ch amplifier.
BOSE? I don't need no STINKING BOSE! :-)

Re: Aftermarket Stereo
I hope to be able to fit the following from my current car when I get the coupe:
Focal 165k2 up front
Focal 165k in the back
2 JL 12w3 sealed
JL 300/4 amp powering the comps
RF bd500.1 powering the subs
I'd like to replace the headunit as well, but only if I can get a very clean looking install.

[snip] Also, does anyone know if the head unit will play CD's with MP3s?
The owner's manual says the unit will not even play CD-R's consistantly. (Someone posted a thread on this) And it will not play MP3 CD's.

Re: Aftermarket Stereo
dfrazer,
i have the same question that you have. i asked several times over on freshalloy, but no one responded to me either. i don't think anyone here knows. the people who had aftermarket stuff put in probably had it done at a stereo shop. if you find out, let me know too, because i pulled my amp out of my old car to use in my g, but it's just sitting in my trunk unused right now.
normally, i would just check myself, but i can't figure out how to take everything apart. i got a couple steps into it, then got stuck. i don't want to just start yanking on things in my new car, you know what i mean? anyway, i've asked for help on how to do this too, but no one responded. at one time, faenor over on freshalloy responded with this long, detailed response, but i took too long to actually try it out, and there was one part that was a little confusing, but by that time, he had stopped visiting the boards.

Re: Aftermarket Stereo
Thanks to All,
Before I get my G, I want to make sure that all issues with aftermarket and stock components are in place. I don't mind keeping the head unit with 6-disc changer, but I do need to know some things. Any input would be appreciated.
1. (As asked before) Does the stock head end unit have RCA outs?
2. Is there a remote lead off the head end unit so I can signal a couple amps? There should be one to control the antenna motor but checking anyway.
3. Where would be the best place to mount a couple of amps without sacrificing any trunk space? Trunk is kinda small and real estate back there is at a premium. I'm looking at some JL Audio 500/1 and 300/4 amps, with assoc. sub and door speaker replacements.
4. How large is the subwoofer port (If you don't get the 200-watt Bose)?
5. Does anyone know if the AM reception is any good on the stock head end unit and do you get any engine rev noises on AM stations (I do listen to talk radio once in a while)?
6. Does anyone know if there is ample room to run decent RCA's and heavy gauge speaker wire throughout the vehicle?
7. Any recs. on professional installers in the Atlanta area? I want top notch work here.

Re: Aftermarket Stereo
There are no antenna motors, the antenna is mounted in the glass, two of them for that matter...

Re: Aftermarket Stereo
Does anyone know if the Bose system (upgrade) comes with a subwoofer output? I am thinking of adding a subwoofer and amp, but I would rather not wire it in series to the rear speakers.. Thanks
