I am thinking about getting rid of my two jl audio 12 inch w1 for one 12 inch alpine type x. my main question is will 1 type x hit as hard as 2 12w1's? the difference in watts is the type x is 1000 watts rms 3000 watts max (i would buy an amp to fully power it) and 500 watts rms to my current subs. TIA

why not get a w3 or a w6 if you want some more thump

 

I have heard the type x and I doubt it not to mention 2 12's will most the time be louder than one 12 no matter the sub difference.

i was planing on getting the alpine m1005 amp(i think thats the one). my plan was to save trunk space since my 2 12's take up a lot of the trunk but not lose sound

 

and i was hoping that since the type x is twice the power of my w1's that it would make up for the fact there will only be 1 sub vs 2

 

Just get a 10W7 and call it a day. It will blow away your current subs and probably the Type X too.
