Garmin Nuvi 660 Installation w/Pictures

Happy New Year to all!!..I received a Garmin Nuvi 660 for Christmas..Wanted to install it in the non-navigation cubby..Needed to be able to take the unit out of the car and be able to close the cubby lid...I got a few ideas from here (Thanks
Cavu,Jimmyc13,etc.)Here's what I came up with(might change it slightly)..
Haven't had a chance to use the unit alot but so far I love it...

Very nice setup. I've been looking to do the same with my Nuvi 350. Couple of questions. What did you use for the base so the holder could suction on to it? Are those two screws connecting the legs? And can you flip up the back antenna all the way up? You'll like the Nuvi. A lot of cool features.

The base is a piece of 2by4 and and 2 pieces of thin plywood
glued together... The black piece is thin plywood with the plastic disc that comes with the Nuvi.I removed the adhesive and epoxyed the disc to the thin black plywood and screwed that to the 2by4...The whole thing removes very easily yet is a very sturdy mount...I'll post some pics of the whole thing removed..This shows the disc..

Nice job Mark. It looks great.

Did you run the power cord that came with the Nuvi in through the console? What do you do if you want to use it in another car? I haven't tried, but I've heard of problems using other power cords, like the Nuvi going into computer connection mode.

In picture 4, where all the accessories are, does the lid still close? What do you do with the unit? How much trouble is it to hide it when parked and then setup? I want to do this but wondering about the convenience of disassembly/reassembly.

One of the main goals of the install was to have everything but the navagation unit fit into the cubby and still be able to close the lid..It works very well... I should of put the 4th photo in the 3rd spot...I take the unit with me..It's not much trouble..Take the nav off,pop the suction cup mount, put in cubby, close the lid...It's more work than a aftermarket DD unit but I didn't want to spend that much and I like being able to put the Nuvi in different vehicles..The Nuvi is an awesome unit...

Do you find that the screen in the 660 is big enough to see from the drivers seat without leaning forward too much? Or do you have to lean forward quite a bit to see the directions?

Mark, that setup looks great! I got a Nuvi 360 for Xmas and I'm looking to do something similar. It's a pain (and dangerous) to lean forward in the seat to touch the Nuvi when it's on the windshield. Having it in the cubby would be great! If you could provide detailed pics of that would piece I'd be really appreciative. Thanks!

No leaning required whatsoever (display is perfect IMO).

In the cubby there's no need to lean..Alot of times I have it turned towards me..
I take it apart and do a little DIY..Still working on the hardwiring..I love the size of the screen and the Nuvi works so well..
