All DLS 06 350Z install done...a bit more showy this time :)

hey gang,

just got done wtih an 06 Z with all DLS set up...this is not the usual hidden stealth install but instead a simple show set up. the car is on its way to becoming a show/daily driver.

goals:

1. Very good sound quality
2. Clean but with enough flash to get some respect at local shows
3. elements of painted fiberglass

before i get started, i want to preface by saying that i am NOT a fan of painted fiberglass installs. too many crazy wild fiberglass installs out there that really makes me feel like they are way to cluttered gawdy... and worse yet, painted glass is NOT a good thing for sound.

so for this car, i wanted to make usre that if i am painted glass, it will remain classy and in flow with the rest of the install, not bit curved amp racks and sub enclosures popping out all over the place taking up the entire trunk

so...lets go:

headunit is an avic-Z1, install via the 06 kit and some modifications so the face flips down properly, the bass module for the dls amp, along wtih the ipod connector from the pioneer ipod adapter resides in the upper cubby for easy acecss

the front stage consists of a DLS ultiamte iridium midbass coupled with a nobelium tweeter for extended upper freq extension. they are housed in a fiberglass kick panel covered in matching vinyl. instead of a normal kick, they are built so a grill can be popped onto the entire thing for a more clean look. in most ocnditions, they are very un noticable, infact, ih ad someone who got int he car and listend to it without even knowing they were there since no obvous round speakres are in sight as with the DLS ultiamtes, off axis kicks like this works great in providing a solid center image and dash high staging

here they are wtih the grilles on, and off for easy servicing of the speakres:

moving on to the trunk. i went with a concave curved well set up. i personally think its classier than the usual convex, and allows the stock floor height to be retained.

the paint, though you cant tell by looking at the pictures, is 06 nissan Z black with flakes in it, and will shine in the sun. a BIG props to g352nv for painting the glass for me

a DLS ultimate Nobelium 10" sub sits in the front middle, flanked by a pair of passiver xovers for the front stage, while DLS reference RA10 (1x500) and RA20 (2x100) amp sits in their own well towards the back linked by a heatsink link. all wiring pass through grommits of course the rest of the floor is trimed in matching vinyl, and upfront, there is my logo offset up in a piece of aluminum.

note the custom placed DLS logo in the vent pole of the sub

finally two behind the scene pics showing the wiring, and the molding/sanding process

sound is very nice and dynamic, smooth and warm as all DLS set ups are

comments and questions welcome
