Re: PS2 Install in Coupe (PICS)

I wonder it it's worth the $150 to get and disect this:
XBox Joytech 6 Inch TFT Colour Screen
and how ghetto of an install it would end up being.

Re: PS2 Install in Coupe (PICS)

Thanks for the comments.

I did the install myself. I'm not sure what it would have cost for everything but I know most places charge $150 per headrest just for labor. I'm guessing with all of the cutting, fabricating, and hiding I would've been close to $1000 if not over.

Question about your monitors in the headtests, because the headrests tilt forward do your kids find it hard to watch? I ask because I have a two year old and I would love to do the same with my car.

There's no problem with viewing angle. I picked the Alpine 580s for that reason. They have a 130 degree viewing angle. If the front seat is straight up at a 90 degree angle you might have a problem but I don't know too many people that sit that way. It also helps that the kids' car seats raise them about 5-6" usually.

Sweet setup

So where did you get the switches that are mounted in the ashtray? I'd like to do the same for a radar detector and or lights in the footwell.

Was that a custom mold for the tray?

I will be installing some blue mood lights in the front footwells of my coupe sometime in the next week. I'll make sure to take pics and post when I'm done.

Re: PS2 Install in Coupe (PICS)

I got the switches from Radio Shack. They're rated at 25amps each so they can handle just about anything. I cut the plate out of a piece of black plastic. It was actually the piece under the glove box since I don't need it anymore. I took a dremel to the ashtray and completely gutted it out.

Re: PS2 Install in Coupe (PICS)

Where on the east coast. I'm sure someone here can recommend a good installer.

I spend 2-3 hours a week in my car waiting for my daughter to do gymnastics, girl scouts, sunday school, etc. It's paid for itself over and over again.

Re: PS2 Install in Coupe (PICS)

I live in NJ about 10 miles away from PA and 45 minutes from NYC...I too have a daughter...and she is is at the "social" stage too. My husband has a portable DVD player in his Van...but I don't think I want something like that. I really like the screens in the head rests...that saves so much space.
You are a VERY talented person...you should consider retiring and doing this for fun...Heck if I can figure it out..I will be quitting my job and doing the installs for fun.
