AVIC-D2 Replacement?

I recently called Grubbs Infiniti to ask for a cost breakdown of getting an AVIC-D2 plus installation.

The guy in the parts department told me that they were out of stock but would have the new replacement to the D2 in within the next 2 weeks. He said that the cost was almost identical, but the new unit is better.

An ideas as to what the replacement is?

The D3 has an MSRP of only $999. The D2 was $1499. I have my DD conversion components, just waiting for this to come in

Looks pretty sweet. More features than before and a price drop to go with it.

I also like the iPod integration and optional rear camera!

I want to install, Pioneer AVIC-D3, Pioneer CDX-P1280 CD Changer, PAC SWI Steer Wheel Controler, Nissan Wire Harness & a Nissan Antenna Adaptor. This should give me a full setup for Navi , CD, & AM/FM. Also I know I need the finisher & ac controler. I would like to do the install myself. What I need to know is, are these plug n' play connections, or do I need cut & solder wires & have special audio install knowledge?
Thanks for the help.

well depends are you replacing the crappy amp? the only other thing that is not plug and play is the pac...that is really an easy install. the antenna adapter just plugs in along with the rest of your setup. why not pay a little more for an alpine head unit setup???

Didn't know I had to replace the amp? What amp would you recommend? Could I do it myself? I'm a machinist & lean more to the mechanical end.
I could follw instructions if they are supplied.
Which Alpine unit do you like? I would like something with double din touch screen, AM/FM, Satilite, CD, DVD. Not a wiz at electronics & need a simple install. Thank you for your help.

You don't really need to replace the amp if you don't want to. The HU has an amp, you would just need the adapter to use the HU with the stock BOSE speakers. Believe it or not, even though stock BOSE speakers are bad, they sound half decent when being pushed by anything but the crappy BOSE/Clarion HU. I think the Pioneer units are are a great value for an all-in-one navi/audio unit. Once the D3 is released, you'll probably be able to find it for $600 or less. You'll spend almost as much for the DD conversion parts, satellite tuner unit, miscelllaneous harnesses/adapters. Good luck.

Ok, I paid for my Avic-D3 this morning. I hope to have it installed by the weekend.

I'll post pics and a review when it's in.

Thank you all for the help & advice, you've given me the confidence to DIY. I'am in the Phila. Pa area, so I can't take g35rcr up on his offer to help, but I will take his advice & install a v12 Alpine if the amp in the HU is not doing it for me. It's great you guy's share your knowledge & experience, with this site you can "get er' dunn".
