i finally got my jl 10w7 installed, first i built a sealed box, it sounded good but was lacking that extra umphh, i built a new ported box and damn does it sound good, it destroys my old 10w3s, i have it on a 500/1, the alpine HU makes and incredible difference, i thought the box would have to be gigantic but i did some research and didnt use jls recommended enclosure and port, instead i used some enclosure software that worked perfectly, i will take some pics when i get the trunk finished, im building all fiberglass enclosures for the amps and other stuff, i found some thin lightweight aluminum screen that can be molded into any shape for easy fiberglass construction at lowes, anybody interested should check into it.

Yeah... pictures of a 10w7 ported in a g35 trunk would be priceless.. Do you have any room left?

yeah, i got plenty of room, the dimensions are 25W x 15H x 10D, about 1.75 in3, ported to about 35 hz, i have my spare removed and the box goes from the floor up to the rear deck plastic speaker covers, im gonna post some teaser pics of the unfinished box installed just to test it out.

From the pic i see two possible issues:

1. be careful with the obstruction of the port.. ie. the seet is up and blocking good airflow.

2. also be careful about the speaker pressing against the seat, it has really high excursion and eventually it will damage itself if pressing against the seat.

Looks sweet though tell us how it sounds!

i understand your points and you are correct, i too was worried about blocking the port but there really is no change in sound when the seat is up, and fior your second point--so thats where all that noise is coming from?, haha, jk, yeah the excursion is tremendous with the sub, but it isnt as far forward as the picture depicts, there is plenty of room. and it sounds awesome.

Hey Tig are you running the bose setup or do you have aftermarket highs and mids??

 

Did you have to remove your spare to make the enclosure fit or did you remove the spare for other reasons? I would like to find a way to keep the spare. Also do you have a picture looking from the back. I would like to be able to hold a set of golf clubs in the trunk with the enclosure.

the spare was removed for the box, here are a few pics. a golf bag would fit easily, i am gonna build the floor up back to where it was with my amp rack, then wall off where the back of the box is, so it will look like a small factory trunk,

umm, you should have fired the subs to the rear not to the front of the car.

why do you say that, actually i did fire it towards the rear at first, but the whole trunk vibrated like crazy. and actually it sounds better facing forward, the seat being up improves the sound.

hmm that's wierd, usually in a sealed encloser you get a couple more dbs firing the sub towards the rear or towards the top.
