I've got the beltronics STi right now and am more than happy with it....

That being said, I am toying with the idea of getting this bad boy. The only thing is, I drive in DC and VA every now and then and the STi is fully undetectable, whereas the 9500i is not.....

Hmmmm....the tough decisions in life

Please keep us updated on the performance of this once you have used it a while.

Just as an update, I have been using this unit now since three days after it was released. I could not be happier with the performance. The auto-sensitivity option (turns down X band sensitivity if you are going at high speeds [highway]) decreases the false alarms to almost 0. The few crazy strong signals (RBC Centura Arena where the Carolina Hurricanes play, for example) still can break through, but then you lock them out.

I do not use the speed trap/camera marking ability, as we don't have speed cameras around here and I frankly think marking speed traps is dumb (they always move and I rarely speed in-town as it is). But hey, it's a feature I can use if I want to later.

My only gripe, and this is REALLY a stretch, is you have to be careful when you "lockout" signals... are you locking out a false alarm or a cop. At first when I first got it, it was easy. I locked out the signals that I ALWAYS get and that was that.

But with the auto-sensitivity decreasing my false alarms to start with (but sometimes depending on speed some of the false alarms come back, and then you need to lock it out), and the obvious unknown nature of when/where a cop is, you face a choice: "Is this a false alarm? Should I lock it out?" If you think too long and it's a false positive, the signal is gone and you'll have to wait till next time to get it, and then remember it's a false alarm and lock it out.

Like I said, it's a bit of a stretch. The benefits outweight that single complain about 100:1. It's WONDERFUL to drive around with a silent radar detector, knowing that when you hear it go off, you need to be slamming on those breaks IMMEDIATELY.

Was it worth $450? Lets put it this way. My fiance (soon to be wife on 5/5) really does not like me spending money on gadgets like this, ESPECIALLY $450. I told her what it does and told her I could buy it under a 30-day trial period (heh, shhhh). After the first day she loved it and said "You arent returning this." My WAF is 100%.

congrats on your marriage

how does this compare with the v1? or even x50? is it more sensitive? if it's as sensitive as the v1, and silent, then... i guess i might sacrifice my arrows... do you have any pics of it on your car?

thanks

The sensitivity is the same as my old x50, maybe slightly more. However the false alarms are much less than the x50, even without manually locking signals out. If you dig up some pictures of the x50 with Mike's Radar Mount and the invisicord, that's the exact same look at the 9500i. They are virtually the same size, the 9500i is a little longer(deeper?). With proper placement using Mike's mount, you can compensate for that, however, which is good anyways because it places the GPS receiver further towards the window and with better visibility to the sky.

The time for the unit to aquire and lock onto the GPS signal is very impressive. I'd say <1 minute given normal enviornment & parameters.

Thanks for the congrats. I'd take pictures but things are f'ing crazy right now between the wedding and closing on a house (both of our first) on Wednesday.

I'm hoping June i can jump back into my car work.

Yep I love mine also. The digital spedo on the unit is sweet.
My only gripe is the auto lockout. I drove past the same spot that it falsed at everyday and it did not remember it. I ended up having to do a manual lockout.

Ive had my escort passport 9500ix for a little over a year now and I love it. However the cigarette lighter connector is starting to get a tab bit annoying.

so does any one have any tips on how I can find an easy way to use the direct wire to tap into the lighter fuse without actually doing any splicing.

Thanks
