Thumbs up Need Help Planning Subwoofer Addition

Hey guys,

new to the forum here, but this seemed like a pretty active (and helpful) place. I've got an '07 6MT with the premium bose system. I want to add a sub/amp combo in the back. I've got about 600 bucks (take or give a few) to get this done, and plan on installing it myself.

Seeing as I dont plan on messing with the front speakers, I dont want anything too powerful. I just want nice, clean bass that will fill out the sound. Anyone want to make some recommendations on sub/amp combos for me? Thanks all!

JL500/1 amp, JL 10w6v2, with 4080 box is a popular choice.

is that even remotely close to 600 bucks? I thought that amp was 500 by itself?

Zenclosures 10" box $140 (shipped)
Elemental Design 11Ov.2 Subwoofer $175
Elemental Design NINe.2X $275

Maybe 16psibrick can chime in on this since he's an eD dealer.

Where are you located?

I might end up selling a brand new never installed 4080 driver's side box and a brand new 10" JL Audio 10w6v2.

Combine the above with a Zapco Reference 500.1 and you are set! Zapco is a great company and that amp is tiny! It will push 500 watts RMS and 1 ohm!

I am in SoCal.

BTW, the 4080 box allows you to keep the majority of your trunk and the rear seat pass through by fitting the custom box in the left rear area of the trunk. It is a beautiful box that fits the countours of that area and is fiberglass. The zenclosure box on the other hand fits the area behind the rear seats, so if you fold them down you cannot put anything in that area.

I go fishing and that is why I did not get the Zenclosure box, I would have no where to put my fishing poles.

If you are okay with out the rear seat pass through the zenclosure is cheaper in price.

Finally the new KICKER CVX round subs are BADASS!! Couldn't believe how hard they hit.
That would be a good choice for a sub install.

I'm in Houston, so probably a no-go on the sale there! I want to get the 4080 enclosure, but I cant justify spending 300 bucks on just a box for the sub. I know it is nice, and it ends up looking stock, but thats quite a bit of money just for the box. Where do you hide the amp if you use the 4080? Under it with the Bose amp?

there is definitely no way to get a 500/1 and a 10W6 for under 300 bucks on ebay. (taking into acct that the 4080 costs 300 by itself) At the very least, that would put me at 800 bucks easily, plus wiring.

my december, I am on the same quest as you, to find a good sub/amp/box combo for a price ~$600 or less. So far I got a 4080 box ($170 used off G35Driver), Infinity Perfect sub (~$100, I have an extra one brand new in the box if you would like to buy it for $80), and I'm still looking for an amp. I plan on installing everything myself so that will save on the installtion cost. I'm also in the Houston area so could compare our budget systems once completed!

I had looked at the Infinity Perfect, but I think I am gonna end up going with a JL 10W3 paired with a 250/1 amp. I've always really liked JL systems and I'm pretty sure I can do all of that and stay under budget. I'll definitely have to look into getting a used 4080 enclosure, cause those are super nice! Thanks for the ideas and I'll let you know if I change my mind on the perfect!
