Re: xm or sirius

Two quick notes on the last post, just so we're on the same fact page:

1) Sirius' 3 satellites are in an elliptical orbit, so that at any given time, one satellite is positioned over the US. They fly at a higher altitude than the XM satellites, which many believed stopped high buildings from cutting off the signal, but it was recently found that they cut off more, as they're "roaming". XM has two in geosynchronous orbit, so there are always two over the US in the same sky position.

2) XM has more ground repeaters and wider non-sat signal coverage in the US.

What ratings are we talking about? Just curious, as I've tried to find any quantitative data on the subject...

Re: xm or sirius

Don't know for sure what ratings he may be referring. Possibly the company's debt ratings which affects the rate or even if they can borrow money in the capital markets. XM debt is classified as "junk" (way less than investment grade) while Sirius had their debt ratings withdrawn totally. From an investors point view both are considered junk. They would each pay through the nose should they want to issue debt. Not the best recommendation for either.

Re: xm or sirius

I have listened to XM for over a year and I have not heard a commercial. It must depend on the channels you listen to, I listen to the 60s, 70s, and classic rock channels.

I have not tried XM, but I like Sirius, mostly for the Rock and Dance music. Very pleased..
