stereo component recomendations

I'm looking to upgrade my 05 sedan bose stereo. I'd like to keep the head unit, and not add too much room to the trunk, if any. As far as sound, I'd just like better overall SQ with some more bass. I don't know anything about stereos, so many of the posts I see are a bit confusing.
I don't need the best system, I'm basically looking for the best bang for the buck for around 1k or less.

From what I've read, it looks like the inifinity kappas are what I'm looking for in the door speakers, is that right?
As far as amp/sub, I'm open to reccomendations.

Also, it sounds like buying from ebay is the best bet and then finding a good installer to install everything?
Let me know what you guys think/recommend.
TIA

Here's my suggestion:

Focal 165 V2 $330
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=1165

JL 300/2 $330
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...Product_ID=244

JL 10W6v2 $310
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2059

JL 250/1 $310
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...Product_ID=243

4080 Sub Box $200

Total: $1,480

It's off the budget, but I feel this setup provides the best SQ bang for the buck. They are all midrange products, but all have been highly rated within their own categories as well as positive consumer feedback from various sources.

The sub, sub amp, and box can be optional, reducing the overall cost by $820. The savings here can be used to dynamat your car and provide for installation costs. If you choose this scenario, you would use your OEM rear coaxials as rear fills connected to the OEM amp or disconnect them entirely and run just on fronts. Some like just fronts, some need rear fills. I run fronts and a sub, no rear fills. The sub, sub amp, and box can be a stage 2 project if you wish, but I feel the products above are pretty top notch within their price categories.

that's a pretty good setup....you might also want to consider:

The CDT ES610's...it comes with tweeters also. It's on sale at a steal for $299. That's what i'm running.

also, i think JL's are kind of overrated. Don't get me wrong, they are good amps and/or speakers, but you pay too much for them IMO. As far as amps go, you could run elemental design, audison, or diamond audio. The last two you can find on woofersetc. Audison can run you about 400 per amp but they are great amps and you get more than what they are rated for.

+1 on the CDT's. By far IMO the best bang for your buck components out there.

If you don't care about crazy, loud bass, get a nice set of components and deaden' your doors. A decent set of 6.5" components properly installed will do the trick. If you find you need more bass you can always add a 10" later on.

great, thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Just to check, are these options not going to add that much space to my trunk? Ideally, I'd like a sub that would fit exactly where the stock one is. Is there anything good out there like that... or is that just asking too much?
Also as for as sound deadening, is that somthing I can get done while at the installation place?
And all these options work with the original head unit? Sounds like there are some compatibility issues with some speakers.
Thanks again!

you're not gonna be able to find a sub to replace the one in your car. you can't even really call the one in the car a "sub" but that's besides the point. there is a guy on here that sells custom fit boxes at 4080enclosures.com for299 that fit perfectly on your driver or passenger side cubby areas of your trunk. that's the best your gonna get. it still allows you to use the seat laydown feature without blocking it.

from here, you can put 1 10" in the box and it will sound great. go with either the focals previously mentioned or other quality sub. I would stay away from your "big name" subs like JL or kicker. you pay too much for what you get. image dynamics is also a pretty good brand it you get the right ones. a good sub should cost you around 300 or so if willing to spend that much. this will give great sound quality. you don't need anything that's gonna shake the hell out of everything and can be heard from a mile away. who cares about that?

as far as deadening goes, you can go with dynamat. it's a pretty standard sound deadening mat that can be spread throughout your car. this install shouldn't be too hard if you know what you're doing and it will def. save you a lot of money. just search this site for some DIY's.

sorry for the long response, but hope this helps.

oh, and if you're gonna spend a g on new speakers, i would replace the head unit as well. the eclispe avn5500 is really nice quality. that's what i have. i love it. with installation equipment doing it yourself, it would set you back another 1300 but it's worth it. you might as well invest in a nice setup if you're gonna do it. i think most people would agree with this assessment.
