How do you remove the shifter?

I've seen the posts for removing the dash assembly, but it was for a manual trans. To get to the dash on my auto trans. I need to remove the shifter but don't know how. On my Land Rover you simply put the car in D, then pull up on the shifter. I tried this on the G but it didn't work. Anyone know how to take this off?

Thanks...

Re: How do you remove the shifter?

Slide the plastic cover on the bottom of the shift **** down. You may need a small screwdriver to do this but be careful not to scratch anything. With the cover out of the way, look for a small brass or copper clip. It is round on one end and open on the other and is installed arouund the shift ****. Use the screwdriver to gently pry it out and then simply lift offf the shift ****...but be careful when you take the retainer clip out because it may pop out and be lost. If you have any trouble, PM me.
