Re: MB Quart/JL Audio Installed

I would love to see your setup. I also just acquired a JL 500/1. Did you get the 8w7 ProWedge enclosure, or custom made? Pics please!

Re: MB Quart/JL Audio Installed

That 500/1 is recommended for optimum performance on the 10W7, on the 8W7, overpowered is fine, it will sound excellent, but make sure you know the difference between good tunes and distortion . . . I've got a 10W7 run by a 500/1 and it is perfect for my needs . . .

Re: MB Quart/JL Audio Installed

I'd love a 10w7, but the box required for that is too big for the G coupe trunk, and I don't want to lose the spare. I almost got a 250/1, but I got a good deal for a 500/1 on ebay. You got pics of your setup hksjza70? And yes, distortion is evil

Re: MB Quart/JL Audio Installed

Yeah man.. the way I had mine setup was a custom box for the 2 8w7's firing opposite of each other. When I get the pics put up here you'll see that I had the installer put up a false wall carpeted so that you can't see them when you open the trunk... Also had the 500/1 mounted on one side in the shock tower and had that falsed in.... Preference here is for a stealth look

Re: MB Quart/JL Audio Installed

I've been doing some component speaker research myself. I heard the MB QSD 216 at a local audio shop and they were incredible. Unfortunately they were at $1299/pair through an authorized dealer. I've seen sub $600 prices on the internet, but these dealers are not authorized by MB and it always begs the question of wether you are getting the real thing. I've also heard from a source that there are copycats out there making MB components from China so it's scary for me to be dropping some serious l3wt on components that might be fake from joe blow's car audio website.

On another note, I've read power requirements for the MB Q series and I think you will be better served with the new JL 450/4 amp which should drive more music through those components. The 300/4 is too underpowered for these high quality components. I've gotten same comments from local audio shops concerning the Q series and their need for more power.

I also had a question concerning the MB setups. For coaxials in the back, are we supposed to go with the MB PCE 216? The Q series line up does not have a coaxial so you have to drop down to their Premium line which are components that can be converted to coaxials.

Re: MB Quart/JL Audio Installed

I'm running it all with an Alpine IVA-d900 - speakers are Focal Utopia Components front and rear - 6-1/2" front, 5-3/8" rear, JL 10W7, and you can see the JL power.

Re: MB Quart/JL Audio Installed

hksjza70,

Nice install. Looks like you took out the spare to make room for the amps. So what's the protocol when you get a flat? Call AAA? Also how are the Focals? Have you been able to compare them to the new MB Quart Q series?

Re: MB Quart/JL Audio Installed

yep, spare tire is stays home . . I've got both AAA and the Infiniti Roadside so, I'm set . . The Focals are excellent. I did not put them up against the Q's, the last time I listened to the Q's they were a little to bright for me, I did compare them to the Dyn's, Boston Z Series, and Diamond Hex. Best bang for the power . . the Boston's and Dyn's seemed more power hungry and the Diamonds compared much more to the Focal K's, you would suspect that from the price range. I would highly recommend the Utopias to anybody along with the 10W7, turned out to be a great setup . . I am however going to be installing the Alpine DSP unit, I need that equalizer for more tuning purposes . . .
