Anyone have any recommendations on how I can get better AM/FM reception? After changing to an aftermarket HU my AM reception is awful, and my FM isn't much better. I have XM and listen to it a lot, but sometimes there are are local programs I like to listen to (especially on AM).

Thanks all in advance.

It's my understanding that the cars have an amplified antenna and it is important to make sure it is connected and powered when installing a new HU or reception can suffer.

Do you know which adapter should be used? I'd assume it has to be something with a power wire coming off of it if it's amplified and needs power. Right now mine does not have any such power feed.

I used the Nissan adapter from Crutchfield. It has a power antenna and an amp turn on lead. I'm sure other adapter makers have them too and that Crutchfield gets some other brand as their own.

It's not on the antenna adapter. It's the actual wiring harness, like this one. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-dXgoq7E...display=XL#Tab

The harness pictured is only one of two pieces that come together.

ooo. perhaps I did not solder the power antenna wire of the harness to the power antenna wire on my deck because I thought we didn't have a power antenna (like the kind that goes up and down). Maybe that's it.... good call, I'll have to check that out!

That might be it. Too bad you have to disassemble the dash to find out.

Did you ever figure out the core cause of the problem?
