6 Inch Screen Install In Cubby

Hey guys. Having some extra time, money and some help from online forums, I installed a 6 inch screen in the cubby which is retractable. I managed to wire up everything, including a ps1, tv tuner with fm modulater, dvd, and power inverter without having to splice one car wire. The only thing that I did to the car which was permanent was making 2 small holes in separate locations. All the wires are hidden and put away, and all the power to everything is controlled by a simple switch.

Here are some pictures:

Hope you guys like. Btw, if anyone needs any help, feel free to give me a PM.

The screen was a cheapo brand, it is Phoenix Digital. It is identical to the pyle 6 inch screen. It cost 139.

Can you post more details and pics about the mechanism that pops the screen out??

how much of a hassle is it to get at your A/C controls while the screen is out?

It takes a grand 3 seconds to put the screen away or I can just lift it up for a sec, so I dont worry bout the climate controls. The mechanism was just 2 - 2.5 inch hinges. I had them welded together in a way which they were opposite. One hinge was facing up while the other was facing down. This allows for the smooth motion.

Re: 6 Inch Screen Install In Cubby

looks good...you should paint the hinges a flat black...btw did you have to cutout the cubby hole any to fit the screen inside?? or does the screen jus fit in there perfect? thanks.

Perfect fit :-). I was thinking of paint it, but no one sees it when the screen is in position so i dont really care much. I am gonna wire my laptop into the car with a touchpad next. Hopefully I wont have much work this weekend from school.

Re: 6 Inch Screen Install In Cubby

Nice installed. I might consider doing the same setup, as the price seems really affordable. Got few questions though. What kind of DVD system did you use and how do you hook it up to the stereo system? and where did you put the stereo system? And how do you power up the DVD and LCD? I'd like to see more picture taken on detail setup on the day time.

Thanks

Re: 6 Inch Screen Install In Cubby

Nice idea. How'd you route the power/vid wires? I assume you pulled the center stack, then drilled through the nav cubby. Out the back? Right or left side? Any obstacles to look out for?

Info appreciated. I might do a similar mount for my Garmin 2610 and would love to know the wire routing.
