It's the modification to the console and AC that allows you to install an aftermarket head unit.

Also...you need it whether going single-din or double-din.

Is that something that you can buy? where (link)? I'm guessing that would be like a new center console, no? because that's all attached together...

basically this is what you need:

ac controller
dash
double din head unit of your choice (preferably eclipse or pioneer)
pac-swix (to retain your steering wheel controls)

you can buy the ac controller and dash from riversideinfiniti.com or PM tony@riversideinfiniti.

Installation typically runs around $200 at a good audio shop.

You need the DD kit and AC controller if you are doing any kind of aftermarket head unit.

Hey guys! Thanks a bunch for your posts.... just to update on what im doing. I just bought the Double Din unit with AC controls and the Pac swix on eBay, DD 300 and Pac swix 50. so it's $350 so far, i was not expecting to spend this money, so im not sure about what kind of head unit to buy. I might end up getting a DVD with navigation ipod ready. Any suggestions for a good new one??? (not too expensive)

You should have waited until you chose your head unit. PAC makes some specific units for certain makes. For example, the PAC-JACK works with JVC, Alpine, Clarion, and Kenwood HU's and hardwire into the back, whereas the SWI-X is universal and uses an infrared emitter that you must mount on the console.

Yes, the SWI-X is universal and it will work with all units with a remote control. However, it is an external device that beams the steering wheel signals to the HU via infra red transmitter - like a hand held remote control. You must mount the IR transmitter so it will have a clean line of sight to your IR receiver on your HU.

The HU specific models hard wire into the rear of the HU via a jack or wire. There is no IR transmitter to mount and theoratically, response time should be faster.

I got the avic-d3 installed with the pac swi-ps, the ipod conector in the glove box and the double din set up... nice. They charge me 180 for the install, ill post a pic soon.

Thanks gilley for the tip on the pac swi-ps.
