Aftermarket HU testing w/o actually installing
Aftermarket HU testing w/o actually installing
Hey everyone, 04 G35C already w/ DD conversion
Just wondering if people knew of an easy way to test an aftermarket HU to see if it fully functional before I tear apart my dash to get to my HVAC.
I have a decent Panasonic HU that I swapped out a year ago b/c the motorized faceplate was acting up. I want to try and test it again to see if it has settled down and I can reinstall it. BUT, i don't want to have to do a full dash disassembly to test this HU. (don't get me wrong, I can do an 04 dash disassembly as fast as a NASCAR pit crew with my eyes closed, 5 minutes max!)
But, is there a way to connect a HU via some kind of wire harness to a power source like a 12V battery to see if the motorized faceplate, CD ejection/load mechanism works before an install?
Thanks in advance...

Yep, cheapest/quickest way is with an old computer power supply. Cut one of the molex drive connectors off, red=+5v, yellow=+12v, black=gnd. Be sure to tape off any wires you don't use to prevent shorts.
On some power supplies you will also need to have a load on the +12v and +5v rails, so have an old hard drive hooked up so it won't shut itself off.
