Question aftermarket subwoofer with stock HU? how does this work?

can someone give me a run down on how this will work?

i've heard that a good subwoofer set up will depends a lot on your HU, will it sound ok with the stock HU?

if it can be done...how will i able to control it?

fyi, i have an 03 sedan with bose system

thanks

in my past experiences w/ cars stock HU can't take all that power and they'll short circut/blow/fry.

I suggest a aftermarket HU. but, Maybe the G's can take the power.

I'm confused. What will short circuit/blow/fry? Are we talking about the HU itself, or the electrical system (alternator/battery)?

Before I switched my stock head unit out I was running 2 JL Audio 12W6V2's, JL Audio 1000/1 an MB Quarts components all around powered by the JL 300/4with no issues. Mean bump with a clean factory look to it.

^I wouldn't let Best Buy nor Circuit City touch my car. Alls you need is the JL Audio spliced RCA plugs, 4 gauge power wire, 4 gauge ground wire, and remote wire. Run your wires, tap the remote wire off the Bose Amp hook everything up and your good to go. Go to a reputable audio shop that specializes in car audio.

i had aftermarket sub w/ stock hu in my 04 accord. i don't really understand what you mean by controlling it but i had a remote bass control **** installed and you could also control the level of bass with the stock hu.

also, the subs were hooked up to my rear speakers and it sounded fine.

my last car was a 2002 mazda millenia. ran all new mids, highs, and subs off of the stock HU (with an amp for mids and highs, and a sub amp of course) with no problems at all. if someone's HU "fried" its because someone screwed up on the install IMO.

It has been done. My 03 sedan has the stock HU powering an Xtant amp, Alpine 12 inch sub in a 4080 box, and Boston Acoustics speakers.

Look here.
