what is the biggest subwoofer
Re: what is the biggest subwoofer
You can put 8" subs in the stock 6x9 speaker locations. Although the stock speakers are 6x9, the holes in the rear deck are actually 8". You would need to use free air subs, but it works. Otherwise, someone people have removed the spare tire and put 10" subs in there.

That's just NUTS! The magnet alone on that thing weighs like 43 lbs! Add the weight of the basket, the enclosure and an amp setup and I wouldnt be surprised if you're breaking the scales at over 60+ lbs. Crazy I tell ya....
Anyhow, for the Coupe, I went with the Infinity Basslink which sports a 10" subwoofer on top and a 10" passive radiator on the bottom (which is like having 2 subs in the space of one). The Basslink also features a built in 200 watt class D amp, and best yet, the whole unit measures in at 14.5" wide, 13" high, and 10" deep. For its size, it really packs a mean punch, and installation is simplified due to the integrated amp and electronics.
You can get the Basslink in either all black, or in a clear chassis. It also comes with a remote bass level control, so you can adjust it from the drivers seat without having to go back to the trunk and fiddle with the gain controls.
Other important features and specs are: Frequency response 20-120 Hz, Low-pass crossover variable from 50- 120 Hz at 12 dB per octave, Bass boost feature (-6 dB to +3 dB at 40 Hz), Speaker and line-level inputs, and last but not least you can get a Basslink for as low as $170 + shipping (ebay).
The Basslink is your best bang for the buck when it comes to size, performance and value! Its perfect for anyone looking for a compact, easy to install (and or remove), hard hitting all in one bass enclosure, that won't take up your whole trunk, and that wont rip a hole in your wallet. Anoter important fact about the Basslink is that it weighs half as much of a conventional 10" sub in a wooden type enlcosure without an amp! Making it perfect for all you performance minded folks!

Re: what is the biggest subwoofer
ncozby, please tell me more about ur 8 inch sub theory. i have had this idea for a long time but everytime i bring it up nobody ever responds to it. if u know somebody who has done it that would be awesome. i dont have my coupe yet but i dont think that setup would be that hard to do, and it has protential to sound really nice. do a job like the jl audio stealth boxes, it would be almost exactly like the stealth boxes in the 3-series. again, i dont have a coupe, but when i get it i will probably try to retrofit some 3-series s.b.'s in there. any more comments or advice would be great.

When I get a G, I am going to install an 8 in each rear-deck location. But I'm not gonna use free air subs. I am going to make a small aperiodic enclosure for each sub. This will allow the performance of 2 8s or 1 12 in a large sealed enclosure without the weight and space of an enclosure. The aperiodic enclosures will be just big enough to cover the baskets and will probably still be covered by that grey carpet cover under the rear deck in the trunk. I'll keep the spare tire, too, with full trunk space with a ton of lightweight bass in a stealth installation.

Re: what is the biggest subwoofer
Any recommendations for 8"s that would fit back there? Very intriguing. It looked as if the 6" part of the 6x9 was pretty tight. I'm surprisignly satisfied with depth of the bass that comes out of the bose 6x9s. Just needs a lot more power and some EQing (in other words, more quality, not more cone space). I could be very satisfied with 8" subs if they fit. Would also eliminate the trunk bass problem. I'd rather have less deep bass than trunk bass.
Wonder how possible it would be to get an array of 3 or 4 of them back there. Hmm...

Micah...i had that same idea..but after hearing a pair of 10's in this car....well....it left me speechless, so thats what im gonna do. Only losing about 6-7 inches of trunk space towards the rear of the trunk.
two 21" amps, two 10" subs, crossover, capacitor, stinger battery....all this in the trunk of our coupe and only giving up a very small amount of trunk space. Pics coming soon..

Re: what is the biggest subwoofer
You'd fit 2 8's tops...especially if you want them to sound right. It can be done fairly easily...if you dont want to build a little enclosure for the subs, then look at getting subs that will work in infinite baffle setups.

Re: what is the biggest subwoofer
i think something like this would be perfect:
http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/3series2.html
jl sub, fiberglass enclosure, just bolt it in and hook it up.
i email jl a while back if they thought they might make stealthboxes for the coupe. they said they didnt know what they would be developing this year, but it was a posibility. so, who knows.

Re: what is the biggest subwoofer
I definitely want a pic once your project is completed . Thanks. I'll be doing something like this soon and am looking for the best sound for the least amount of trunkspace used (and keep the spare tire there).
