My friend & I were hooking up some monitors in my car and we were messing with a rear-view camera and then all of a sudden
the power was cut to the monitors. Also, some of the dash lights and the lights on the factory radio are out. There's only the main lights on my dash but I can't see the spedometer or odometer. We pulled all the fuses and none of them are blown. Any help?

 

What fuses did you pull? I'll check the Infiniti Service manual and try to find the fuses that go with the dash lights. Let me get back to you. The other more worrisome thing to consider would be if you screwed up your BCM....

looks like fuse box 4, fuse 14 10A would be the culprit....but i would need to know specifically what lights work and what lights were out to narrow down search for probable blown fuse....

After taking apart the stereo we realized that there must be a fuse somewhere that isn't under the hood or by the foot brake.

We jumped a constant power wire from one of the harnesses in the back of the stereo to another wire on the same harness and everything works again, but now everything is receiving power even when the key is removed.

Where is fuse box 4? The owner's manual only shows two.


BEFORE WE JUMPED THE WIRES:
The gauge lights such as BRAKE, CHECK ENGINE, BATTERY, OIL, etc. work.

However, the gauge lights such as speedometer & odometer don't light up at all. Also, the temperature and radio controls don't work.

The fuse block is the one that is located in the driver passenger kick panel behind the finisher. (Fuse Block J/B).

After analyzing the lighting wiring diagram for the odometer/speedometer, AC unit and radio, I think the fuses that would be blown would be fuses 12 and 14









But, what doesn't make sense that if fuses 12 and 14 were blown, not only would the odometer/speedometer and AC and radio lights fail but fuse 14 also does the clock, VDC light, upper glove box, lower glove box, heated seat lights, cigarrete lighter, hazard light and ashtray lights. So if fuse 14 is blown, all the lights listed above would also not work. And if you looked at all those fuses, specifically 12 and 14, and they weren't blown....

What I'm thinking is that you probably accidentally pulled/loosened one or two of the power wires from the power harnesses to interupt power to the speedometer/odometer, the AC and radio lights. If you jumped the power wire like you stated in your last post, then this would be consistent with this theory....

I'll dig a little more into the power harness section of the service manual to find the exact wire(s) that would contribute to these light failures...

What I just bought to help diagnosis these electrical and computer problems was this:

This unit is way cheaper than buying the actual OBDII diagnostic tool. I haven't actually tried the unit since I haven't had any problems since I bought the carmd.com unit but I have heard great things about it in some reviews and others who have used it to diagnose those pesky CEL's.

Thanks for the diagrams. We're looking into the problem still. Two things though: I don't have nav and I'm not getting any CEL's.

 

Update as of 9/30/07:

My friend ran a test of all the wiring to the fuses in the fuse box you pointed out. One wire was not receiving power even though the fuse appeared to be fine. We replaced the fuse and now that wire is getting power. Still, no difference though. He thinks there must be some wire that is not supplying power. He says all the wires in the harness on the back of the radio seem fine. As for the jump wire, he replaced the one from constant power to the cigarette lighter which only supplies power with the key in ACC. Now everything operates in normal conditions, but it irks me that it isn't back exactly the way it was.

Another note, I am now getting a SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator on the dash which I am not sure is directly related to this matter. Before with the constant power, I was disconnecting the battery everyday so sometimes this would reset this indicator.

 

that carmd.com product I bought and mentioned to you might be worth picking up b/c it could probably detect where your problem is with the power wire. It would also run diagnostics on your system to see why the you would be getting a SES indicator. It doesn't just do CEL diagnostics...

 

So i was messing with my backup camera too and accidently blew the same fuse. all the lights on the speedo are out and there is no accessory power for the radio. the clock does light up and so do the steering wheel buttons, the dimmer work as well. i have checked every fuse and am totally lost. there has got to be a fix.

 

check wire harness... did you accidently pull out the wire out from the harness. If the fuses are intact, it might be the harness wires....

woohooo...problem solved. the culprit to this was fuse #6 in the driver kick panel. its a 10 amp fuse labeled "mirror", who would ever think that this controls the accessory power to the radio and the lights for the gauge cluster. now back to wiring the rest of my system, gonna be a lot more careful.

Thanks to this thread I figured out why my gauge cluster's lights were out.. My alarm installer accidentally took out fuse #6!! Thanks guys!

 

i was messing around with my radio and a loose wire touched something and combo meter lights wouldnt come one speedo, tach, warning lights, etc worked though. fuse #6 (mirrors) was the culpret. thanks to all the old posters for this
