I have a V1 and I love it. With Mikes mount and invisicord it sits nicely tucked away with no wires.

v1 used to be king, now it's out of date.

passport 8500 x50 is probably the best (aside from 9500i, not sure), i've had it for 2 years and never had a ticket...

I don't know much about the 9500i, but I believe the detection capabilities are similar to the 8500, which can be bought for MUCH less...that is, unless you really need a radar detector that talks to you. Get the visor clip and mount it on your visor...badass setup.

Also beltronics makes a very good detector...rx55 or rx65

Clean x50 install i did...just get an add a circuit and run a telephone wire up a-pillar and through upper dash panel.

Out of date? lol! I don't think so

The V1 may not have different colored LED's and no, it doesn't talk to you or have a GPS in it but, it does work incredibly well - and of course, it tells you what direction the radar is coming from.

I got puled over a few days ago and my X50 never went off. When the cop(good friend) got close enough to tell it was me he kinda laughed and said see you later. I was amazed that he nailed me and my X50 never went off. I asked him how he got me and he said radar. That was the end of that. Funny it didn't work here at all, but other instances it has worked to perfection.

Check this out. I found someone has integrated the V1 external module to the Homelink Mirror. It's so fvcking hot!!! It's the most cleanest and very creative!!

That is very clean and looks great. However, most use the remote display to hide the fact that you have a detector.

Well, with the remote display in the Homelink mirror, it's hidden definitely.
He installed the V1 Remote Audio Adapter in the ashtray console so that it can be easily turned off. Genius!!

V1 turned off

Your such a tool. The V1 has never and will never be out of date. Just because it's case looks the same, the internals are new. zx11pilot beat me to the punch. Also on the guysoflidar website you will notice off axis tests show how superior the V1 is at detecting off axis radar. The 9500i has many problems of it's own. I own both a V1 and STi. Both are extremely good at detecting ka. My STi seems to do a hair better on 35.5 ka, but my V1 trounces it on k band. Regardless, the V1's strong sensativity also makes it quite chatty. You can program it to do a multitude of things, but it's still chatty. I decided to try the STi since the Spectre IV has been spotted in VA and I didn't want to risk getting caught, especially since the video proof was taken in NOVA where I live. There are between 50-60 Spectre IV's statewide in the State Police cruisers. There is no perfect detector. If you don't live in VA, DC or Canada, I would get the V1, otherwise the 9500i or the STi would be a fine choice. The ramp up on the STi and 9500i are horrible. They go fast and faster. No alert rampup at all.

"passport 8500 x50 is probably the best (aside from 9500i, not sure), i've had it for 2 years and never had a ticket..."

This statement just makes me laugh. The new X50's aren't as stellar as the older ones. New horn design shows them middle of the pack in performance.

Let's also not forget that you can always send your V1 in to have it updated no matter how old it is for a mere fraction of the cost of a new detector. After it's updated it's warranty starts from scratch. Last update cost me $75.
