The PB50 Push Button start system doesn't provide for any ignition switching (ie is designed to be used with a key).

We are developing the IC50 Keyless Ignition Control system that will be capable of turning the ignition/accessories on/off without using a key.

We talked about "stages" in the beginning but that isn't the route we are going. There will be one push button start module and a completely seperate, modular ignition control module. The PB50 that is available now for $179.99 will be compatible with our add on ignition controller if/when we release it.

I've been spending quite a bit of time on the development of the IC50 but I've got a lot on my plate right now so it isn't coming along as fast as I would like. We have the hardware design done and some basic code done. The RFID part is complete and the system can recognize tags and provide authentication. All I really have left to do is finalize the logic in regards to actually turning the ignition/accessories on and back off and outputting the correct signal to the PB50 to start the car.

Man! The IC50 sounds pretty exciting! That would make the G all the better since i feel we we're swindled by the new altima having this tech. No pun though, just saying. I would like the PB50, but i can wait for the IC50 as it would be nicer to push the button w/o the key to start & stop the ignition. Please keep us updated on this.

With the way mine is installed you can still use the key. It wouldn't be hard to modify the wiring though so that the key no longer works. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that, but I know a few people have asked about it.

Update!

I just got done installing the first IG50 - making my G35 almost completely keyless.

I say almost because I don't have the transponder bypass to bypass the OEM system. You can buy one for $20 or you can actually make one with a relay and some wire. I also still have the mechanical wheel lock that prevents me from turning the steering wheel. I will most likely (although not 100% sure) completely bypass it in the near future.

I must say the system is pretty impressive - it provides feedback once the RFID chip is read, it gives the driver the ability to turn on the ignition and accessory, just the accessory, or start the car, and it adds something these cars should have already had - a RAP system (this is the system that leaves the radio on until a door is opened).

As much as I didn't want to do it, I did have to make some software changes to the PB50 Push Button Start module. We don't have a large amount of them distributed yet so it shouldn't be a huge issue. The current processor is socketed and can be updated rather easily.

I will continue to test this in my car and install one in one of my other vehicles just to make sure I haven't overlooked anything. It's impossible to say right now when this will be ready, but its getting closer and closer each day.

Here is a video of everything in action (9 meg file)!

Looks awesome. I still want to do it without the key. Where can you get the transponder bypass

You can get them on Ebay for $20-25. The module will control the bypass, I just simply don't have one at the moment. You can also make one using some wire and a relay - I may give that a shot.

The immobiliser really isn't a concern as it is simple to get around. The hard part will be modifying the steering column so that it doesn't lock.

How difficult is it to remove the steering wheel lock?

I can't say for sure as I have never done it. It looks like drilling out a few rivets and thats it, but I could be completely wrong.
