Nav won't display map

Nav won't display map
I upgraded my nav from v6.3, or whatever the default navi version is for a 2003 G35 coupe, to v6.5 and now the map doesn't display. Address book locations display as does the car arrow but since the map doesn't display it cannot calculate and routes.
When I first installed the new version it displayed a map of LA but after driving for 5 minutes it positioned me in the right place (Vancouver, Canada) but there was no map.
Does anybody know why this has happened? Any help is appreciated
