Re: Pioneer AVIC-N1

The new Alpine IVA-D300 is a control unit only, and at $1500 you'll have to pony up for their Nav system which is another $1500. On top of that, the unfortunate thing is you *can't* use the 300's touch screen to interface w/ the Nav unit N852A, you have to use their )(*#& remote control. Pretty lame. I'm looking at the 2004 brochure right now and in the fine print asterik at bottom of the nav page it says 'IVA-D300 and TME-M770 monitors do not provide touch screen capabilities when used with the NVE-N852A.

The AVIC-N1 as has been mentioned can load the map DVD into memory and then allows you to play CDs / DVDs etc. The only question I have about it is: will it play WMA, there is no mention in the literature of it [although they have a WMP9 skin amusingly enough] and whether they both can play WMA on DVD-R.

Re: Pioneer AVIC-N1

Thats true, the alpines and kenwoos dont come with the built in nav. Thats the main thing they are lacking. However the price of the Pioneer N1 will be around the $2k mark, im guestimating, of course. You can get the Alpine IVA-D901 for anywhere between $1480-2300 (depending on how good of a buyer you are, its not hard to get ths item at the lower price mark) and add the Alpine NVE-N852A (NAV) for another $500-$750, not $1500. Yes the MSRP is $1700 and people are selling them for $1500 but others are selling much cheaper than that. The cost on that item is only $500-$900 depending on how much volume you as an Alpine dealer move. Luckily for me I have buddies who own a car audio custom shop and I get things at cost. Like for say I bought my Alpine IVA-D900 for $1380 plus tax (cost plus tax) and I bought the NVE-N852A nav for it for $500 plus tax...So now in a sense I have a bad *** quality media center with a better picture than any other monitor on the market plus other features and I only paid a hair over 2 grand for it. Now its not hard to buy these items at close to cost prices even if you dont know somebody in the biz. A good thing to do when shopping is to search your model number on ebay, take off a hundred or so, depending on the demand of the item or how many items under that model number come up, and you have a rough idea of what the cost of that item is. Now im some cases you could even take that price and cut it in half and have the cost on it, so this idea doesnt always work. but if anyone is curious about Alpine or Kenwood, Diamond, MB Quart, Rosen, Directed, etc., prices PM me and Ill try to get you the cost on the item. Thanks and hope this thread helped. oh and btw the IVA-D300 will retail for about $1400 but the cost on it is less than a grand.

Ah yes, but will they play MP3/WMA on those DVD-R DVD-RW or is that format only to be used for movies.
