Questions about a new head unit
Hi I'm new to the forums and I just had a few questions about aftermarket head units on the G35. I have a G35 Coupe with Navigation and XM Radio. I'm considering buying the V35 Dash kit and the AC chip so I can put in an aftermarket head unit, however I'm not sure about a few things.
1) Will the stock navigation system be compatable with an aftermarket head unit?
2) As long as I buy a head unit that is XM ready, I should be able to just plug that in and use XM, I wouldn't have to buy any other pieces?
3) Will the steering wheel controls still work with an aftermarket head unit? If not, is there some kind of adaptor that will make them work?
4) If I go ahead and buy the AVelectronics unit to be able to watch DVDs on my navigation, would this work properly with a new head unit?
5) What parts would I need in order to get the Bose speakers to work properly with an aftermarket head unit, I think I read that the stock HU puts out a very low voltage, and that I would have to buy a converter to get an aftermarket HU to work with the Bose speakers.
I'm looking to upgrade because I've noticed how bad the sound on the stock Bose system is. Lately I've been hearing a few pops during some audio playback so I decided to look into putting in an aftermarket head unit. Later on I would have new speakers installed. Because of the 2 DIN spaces I thought a good setup would be a single DIN CD receiver, probably Alpine or Pioneer because I've used them before and they work well. And then in the lower DIN a DVD receiver that would plug into the AVelectronic box, and then my navigation. What do you think?

<hr></blockquote> Just ditch the Bose amp. It's easy to remove and not worth the effort to try and integrate. You can run the existing speakers off a normal aftermarket amp just as well as you can with the Bose.
I removed the Bose amp, installed a Ven4 line converter, and for starters, just put a normal Crossfire 100x4 amp in its place. I connected the rear deck and rear door speakers in parallell. When I turned it on, everything worked and sounded almost exactly the same as it did before (that's a good thing, it means all the levels and such are balanced right). I then inserted an EQ and subs, and the existing speakers now sound wonderful in comparison. I'll eventually upgrade the components in the doors.
