i researched both the v1 and escort 8500 x50. what it came down to is while the v1 has the # of threats and arrows, it also experiences more false alarms. ive had my 8500 over 2 years and its saved me numerous times. iim also using a cord from www.invisicord.com with no problems.

Installed today. Followed these instructions, tapped into the homelink wiring with a black phone cord i had laying around. Red to black pink, green to black. It didn't work. Scratched my head for a bit then compared the plug on the 8500 phone jack to the the jack on the phone cord I was using. Green and red were reversed in the jack. Don't know why. Reversed wires and hooked red to black and green to black/pink and all good.

The red and black wires on the phone cable will be reversed depending on which end of the cable you use.

The best one is the new Passport 9500.. Same award winning proven features that the 8500 had but now with GPS!!!!. This mean no exactly where they are. Speed Traps, Camera Lights, and the new Speed Cameras. 450$ is kinda steep but this tecnology is well worth it.

At first glance $450 does seem steep, but if you think of the cost of just (1) ticket - you will come close to paying for your detector.

Here in California, the actual ticket for running a red light camera is around $75 and the "service fee" for the camera is another $250 on top of that. This doesn't include the day you have to spend if traffic school.

True, V1 costs only about 1-2 tickets and it saves you much more. Besides how can you live without arrows and bogey counter?

I ended up with the 8500 x50. The red display one. I fail to see the logic in a$40 upcharge for a different color led display so I passed on the blue.

Spliced into the homelink wire like above but removed the plastic piece that covers the wire coming down the the windsheild and spliced in there. Plastic piece then covers the splice and it looks much cleaner.

I just posted re radar. As I stated, I have a 95001 hard wired to my BlackBird and want to use it in the car. Not illegal in BC or most places I ride/drive. I'm thinking of using the cig lighter, the other source is for the i-pod, as a power source. I'll have to figure out if I can use the rear view mirror. The 9500i has saved me many a time, a CBR 1100 XX is very fast. lol

The Cobra variant offers 360 degree protection and allows your detector to be completely undetectable to radar detector detectors that are being increasingly used by Police and highway patrol. I just purchased one and it works great. Detects X, Ku, Ka, and Spectre bands as well as Laser. Best money can buy with a rather lengthy warranty period.
Can be purchased at the site or at best buy for a modest 200 bucks.

You must sell Cobras because everybody that knows anything about quality radar detectors knows that Cobra makes the worst performing and falsing radar detectors in the world.

http://guysoflidar.com/august-2007/r...ctor-test.html

Cobra does not have 360 degree protection because it only has a front radar antenna and not a front and rear antenna like the Valentine One with true 360 degree protection.

Cobras are not undetectable by radar detector detectors. They are actually easily detected by them from 1000-1600 feet away.

You said that it detects X, Ku, Ka, and Spectre bands. Ku band radar is not used in the U.S. so who cares. Does it detect K band because you didn't mention that? Also, there is no such thing as Spectre band and the Cobra can't detect the Spectre IV radar detector detector but the Spectre IV can detect the Cobra from far away like I mentioned earlier.

+1, i agree.. Cobra radar dectors are one of the worst radar detectors you can buy.. Before my passport and v1, i purchased a cobra detector and i was disappointed with the detection and the frequent false warnings. If you are looking to purchase a radar detector, go with passport/bel or v1..
