That's even easier. 6 screws and disconnect a couple of plugs. Just take your time. The first time you take apart any interior is a little scary but if you know what to remove and take your time you'll have no problems.

How did you get that stubborn harness out of the dvd drive?

Yes, that is a pain.

You have to push in a pin on top of it, and pull it out at the same time. The pin is right in the middle of the harness.

It's kind of like in this picture

Out of curiosity, has anyone had problems when taking the car in for service with this mod? Do they ever have to muck around in that area of the car? (I'll avoid having them change the cabin air filter)

I assume the Nav warranty is voided as well.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

I finished two more mods today, this one and the side marker blinker mod. I just wanted to thank you Trentacinque for posting these pics and instructions. I completed it myself and I can't tell you how thankful I am for showing us electronic amateurs like myself how to do this. Without this board I never would have even thought to do this, let alone been able to complete it without these pics. The Nav just became 300% more useful.

If you're ever in Memphis, holla, I owe you a cold beer.

No problem bro. I totally agree with you that if it wasn't for this board I wouldn't have thought of a lot of the things I've done to my car. One of the many reasons why I chose to slap a G35Driver.com sticker on my car.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

Has anyone tried this mod by not splicing into the trunk switch but instead adding a new switch altogether. I want to do this but didn't want to have to open my glove box just for because of the "explanation" that would need to follow everytime i have a passenger. I was thinking of adding a new switch and installing under the steering wheel somewhere. Any suggestions on the type of switch I would need? A simply rocker switch?

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

I'm confused, please help....

So even after this mod (which is great btw), I will still have to reach to the glove box every time I want to operate the NAV while moving? I thought that once you disable the switch (or enable ???) this is it, you no longer have to deal with it. Or does it have a "default" state (like the VDC switch), where it will go back every time you turn off the car....

Sorry it it's sounds dumb, but I lost you guys...

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

I used an external rocker switch. Be sure you buy a 12V switch. Radio Shack has a few choices.

Speedaholic, you need to hook it in to a switch. If you just cut the wire and leave it, the navigation system will think the car is not moving. Then it won't track your movement, so the system would be useless in that state. The switch is so that you fool the car into thinking that you're not moving by cutting the wire connection for a bit.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

To clarify, speedaholic, you can still use the features that were normally allowed while moving without flipping the switch. You'll just have to flip the switch if you want to use the nav features that were previously unavailable while moving.

If you don't want to use the trunk switch, there's a vacant switch place just below the hazard light button that's just begging to have a rocker switch installed there. I thought about doing this but wanted everything to remain stealthy/stock-like.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

I get the part of what the switch is for. What I don't get is whether I'll need to re-set the switch every time I turn the car on. For example: You can turn the VDC off all you want, but once you turn the engine off and back on, the VDC goes back to its "ON" state. So that's my question: will I need to re-enable this feature via the switch every time I start the car....

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

Leave the switch in the "on" position and your nav will act like it always does. When you switch it to "off" the speed sensor is interrupted so the nav thinks you've stopped. Now you can program it while moving. Switch it back to on and it finds itself moving again.

So you only need to hit the switch when you want to program while moving. Not like VDC.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

Thanks again, chenga. I did the external switch like you and wanted to add that it is NOT necessary to unfasten the DVD wiring harness from the DVD. You can access the green/white wire with it connected. It is trying to unhook the connector, especially if you don't use a mirror. But this is an incredibly useful mod. I strongly recommend this to all with navigation.
