Program Navigation While Moving DIY

I got this idea from another member and took some pics while I did it. It's pretty easy and can be done in about 30 minutes.

Tools and parts needed:
Phillips Screwdriver
Wire Cutter & Stripper
Wire Crimper
5 18-22awg butt connectors

After you complete this the Navigation system is completely operational while the car is moving. If you use the trunk switch you will no longer be able to disable the trunk opener from inside the car. I didn't see a need for this so I used the factory switch instead of installing another one.

To operate the Nav, turn the switch to "off". When you're done, turn the switch back to "on". It may take a few seconds for the Nav to find it's bearings since you're basically tricking it to believe you're not moving.

Remove the black plastic nut holding the kick panel to the floorboard.

Next pull the doorsill trim away from the body (towards the center console). You only need to pop out the top 2 clips to gain access to the kick panel.

The kick panel can then be removed by pulling towards the center console.

Here you can see the 2 clips holding the kick panel in.

Now you can remove the screw at the bottom of the glove box (top of the screen).

Also remove the other screw on the left side of the glove box, also on the bottom.

Pull down on the upper portion of the glove box and manipulate the clips that hold it to the upper dash.

Remove the wire harness on the far right from the back of the Nav DVD player.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

I forgot to add that you need 2 12-15" pieces of small wire (18-22awg).

Cut the white and green wire on the harness and attach a piece of extra wire to each end with the connectors. Give yourself a couple of inches on the plug side. The wire is very small and brittle so it's difficult to strip.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

Cut the 2 wires going to the plug leaving a couple inches on the plug side. Connect the other ends of the extra wire you attached to the green and white wire. It doesn't matter what order you connect them in.

Connect the 2 wires you removed from the switch (blue and pink) together. If you don't do this your trunk will no longer open.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

Re-connect the trunk switch and plug the wire harness back into the Nav. Be careful when re-installing the glove box that you don't pinch the wires you just installed. Put everything back together and you're done.

Re: Program Navigation While Moving DIY

Have some faith in yourself. You cut 3 wires and re-crimp them. Easy day.
