Whats all the hype around Phoenix Gold RSD Comps?..
Whats all the hype around Phoenix Gold RSD Comps?..
My DLS UP6 components died on me after 18mo of solid abuse... After scouring the caraudio forum people are loving these PG RSD components, surely at about $100 are these really that good?... Anyone have/heard these?
i dont think anyone needs to get excited about anyhitng PG is making these days...what a sad thing htey have become
18mo? did you get it from an autorized dealer? if so, it can still be covered under warranty...

I have heard these and for the money you arent going to find a better set of new components. They aren't going to sound better than a set of focals or any other high end components but if you are on a budget they are definitely the best choice out there.
I was also amazed at how much hype they are getting in the car audio forums, so I ordered a set. Paid $87 and they just came in. Gonna bridge a kicker zx350.4 to the comps and use the head unit to power the rears. I'll let you guys know how they sound.
def let us know, im still not convinced that a pair that cheap could really satisfy, how about Pioneer Rev comps, again a cheap pair with great reviews. Im prob going to stick with Diamond Hex speakers.
I'm skeptical too, but there are soo many people raving about thses pg rsd's in the caraudio forums. I was about to order some diamond hex comps before I read all the great reviews on the rsd's. I figured if all these audio guys thought they sounded better than anything under $250, I should give them a try. Especially for $87.
Here are just a couple reviews, but these comps are mentioned all over the forums.

i have heard it, and the one thing i find funny is that everyone quote ebay or online prices, as if thats what you compare with...its a $150 dollar spekaer, being whored out at $80 something.
so compared to other spekare that are being ebayed at $80-90, it really isnt all that special:
infiniti reference
rockford p1
alpine type R
the kenwood whatever its called hehe
kicker ks ds
arc audio kar
mbq esa
etc
etc
it honestly sounds pretty much that...it may be among the better sounding of that range, but i honestly can think of a few pseakres, retailing at mid to high 200s, being whored out at mid 100 bucks range, that will easilly surpass it...
keep in mind these types of "hyped" reviews pop up all the time, simply becuase most of hte people who post it dont have a lot of exrperience in SQ or with a ton of other speakres
we that have been in the industry long enough learn to just read these things and let it go by, cuase honestly, every year, theres about 30 products that gets posted and then hyped to various degress.

Got them installed today. Now I am far from being a car audio guru, but to my novice ears, they sound incredible. People rave about the amazing bass output and now I know what they mean. These things hit really hard. I was all smiles on the way home.
A good friend of mine used to be an installer so I asked him to come over and listen to them. He wasn't as blown away as I was, but he was very impressed nontheless. He said they sounded awesome and really liked the bass output. He thought the tweeters were a bit too bright, but I had them turned up pretty high. The big shocker for him was that they cost me $87. He agreed that they compete toe to toe with much higher end comps.
I know my novice opinion isn't worth much, but I bought them because there are tons of people loving these comps over the the car audio forums. I couldn't be happier with them.

Im not sure about the Rev comps but the coax do sound pretty good for the money. I agree that there are other sets out there that sound better than the pgs but most of them are in the 200 range. Obviously if you are an audiophile you wouldnt even consider rsds but for the average person who is used to stock speakers this is definitely the best bang for your buck. If anything i think Kappas are the most overrated on this forum. I think they sound horrible and people only seem to like them because they are one of few speakers that are 2 ohm. Everything is relative.
