Upgrading the Factory Stereo System

Hi all. Now, before anyone says, "go check out this forum or that forum", please read this.

I notice that there is a lot of different places to look up information. I don't like having to hunt for things. It's just not me.

So, what I am hoping for is a solution to my problem.

Here it goes.

I am wanting to upgrade my factory Bose system. I am looking at changing the single din to a double din. I would like to take the stock stereo out have the double din so that I can pick a different head unit.

HELP!!!

I don't want to spend a fortune and I want to know where I can get the neccessary pieces to make this work. Part numbers and prices for each would be awesome.

Also, I need to change out the speakers. If I was to go to Boston Acoustic Pro's from Ultimate Electronics, would that be a good idea? Would I just disconnect the factory speakers and switch them out with the Boston's? Would the amp play a factor in this? or would I need to get a better amp. I really need the double din and everything necessary (example... a working A/C and heater) that goes with it before I go with the speakers. Do I need to change out the A/C, heater module and go with a *** part? or is the double din enough for a different head unit and still have full function of the A/C and heater?

Part #'s and contacts are what I need.

Thanks G35 family. Without this forum, I think I would probably never change anything on the G. :-(

Man... I really hope that not too many people flame you for this post. The more likely thing that will happen is that your post will not get any responses from the others.

Not that I want to be a bad person, but I am not going to answer your questions nor will anyone else probably. The reason is if you scrolls through the first 2-3 pages in the Audio/Video/Navigation Forum, you'll find several posts of exactly what you're asking.

Why respond to this in the first place? I rather have you know why people will not answer your questions. Otherwise, your post will fall deeper and deeper into the pages of this forum without any responses and you'll wonder why....

Re: Upgrading the Factory Stereo System

ok now...the stock system is double din size, just happen that AC and radio controls are on same IC board and connected to the CD changer and tape palyer behide the dash. you can leave it alone and just change speakers and amp, since the stock radio dont have RCA output to the amp, you will need a hi-lo converter or LOC ( many different names but installer will know what it needs). thats what i've done at first, after the installtion, it did NOT sounded as good as i thought it would be, since i have heard the same brand of spearkers and amp from the installer's car, it sounded kinda flat and bass is seriously lacking, and my setup is two step above the installer's own car, after checking the whole system over few times could not really find the problem, only thing left is the factory raido.

if you want to change the radio( strongly suggest that you do) get those KIT. will save you lots of trouble, i've said it few times, "it only took 16 days from payment to my door!" . the first two parts along with the metal bracket are most importan, wont work without them, but since the other two parts (pocket and cover) only cost me few dollars more, so i got the whole thing.

pretty sure you can just change the spearks, but i dont know how well it will sound, it might have impedance (ohm) problem, since the PRO series are power hungry, it can handle upwards of 400 watts! dont think stock amp will even come close to fully utilize those spearkers. so i would suggest the new amp.

you can try just change out the spearkers and amp first( if you are under budget constrains) and see if you like the sound, dont think change the stock radio without change the speakers and amp will produce better sound, atleast not by much anyway.

i've attach few pics, hope that helps...good luck...s.w.

Re: Upgrading the Factory Stereo System

Hey limeg35,

Did you lose your dual climate control abilities in doing this modification to the head unit? I noticed on the stock controller board you have a dual climate button but on the new ac controller you bought it has the dual climate button blanked out. I was just curious.... do they have the ac controller with the dual climate option?

thanks for the great posts!

To retain the Dual Climate Control for the Japan v35 AC controller, see my DIY guide on how to switch out the 2 buttons (1 Circuit board button and 1 black controller button)

Re: Upgrading the Factory Stereo System

the stand alone AC controller does not have dual temp control, but like joepaniolo said, you can add it to the new controller, i never used that thing anyways, so i didnt do that, if i need to later on? i can always add it on then...s.w

by the way...hows your system coming along???

Re: Upgrading the Factory Stereo System

It's coming... I have to call the installer today to find out when it will be ready. hopefully I can pick it up tonight or tomorrow afternoon the latest. I am dying to see the final outcome and how it sounds. I've been kind of a pain in the @$$ showing up to peak at it all the time, but he' a good guy and doesnt mind. I'll post some pics of the final setup when I get it back.
